A lack of confidence does not
discriminate, it happens to all of us,
whether we are mid-level, senior-
level, or entrepreneurs. Many of us
navigate an intricate web of self-
doubt about any number of things,
regularly.

ourselves like....
Am I a good leader? Should I be leading people?
I never got the skills I need for the job I want.
There are so many people more experienced at this than I am.
I will never be good at that.
I am irresponsible.
I am not successful or important in the way I want to be.
Nobody wants to work with me.
I will waste all my money and never get ahead.
I am not where I want to be in life..
I don’t belong here.
I know because I've said all these
things to myself at some point... and
so have my clients.
As a U.S. Air Force veteran, corporate communications executive for 16+ years
and now executive coach at my company, Lucid Ventures, I am here to help you
build your confidence in a way that lasts. You will learn exactly how to turn
around this negative internal dialogue with every-day confidence building
techniques. Unfortunately, female leaders hinge our self-confidence on results.
We only permit ourselves to feel valuable when we achieve a goal, earned a good
income, or cooked a good meal.

just watched TV, went to the gym or did anything in between.

Congrats!
First, let me congratulate you for having enough self-awareness to know
that building your confidence will take you to that next level of growth. So
many of us struggle with this issue, and never take any actions to address
it. Knowing you must work on this at all separates you from a vast
majority of professionals out there, and it is a great first step in the right
direction!
Now, I must make one more important distinction. In my practice I have
identified two types of confidence:
1. Empty Confidence
2. Lucid Confidence
WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON IN
THIS GUIDE IS LUCID CONFIDENCE.
Lucid Confidence lives in your heart and makes you strong, like a
house of bricks. Whereas, Empty Confidence crumbles and falls
apart like a house of straw. Typically rooted in narcissism,
individuals with Empty Confidence may have desirable positions
and financial status, yet never feel fulfilled. Their self-worth will be
founded on things like who they know, how much money they have,
how many followers they have and where they live and work.
You can always tell when someone has Empty Confidence
because they are highly likely to name drop and tell you how
expensive something they bought is.
With this guide you will go from cloudy
to LUCID
With Lucid Confidence you will learn how to tap into facts
(not fiction) on why you CAN be confident, leverage the
areas where you SHINE and build techniques to move
yourself out of any place of self-doubt, permanently.
For each of these steps I have provided an area where you
can write down the steps that you will take for each
section. This is an especially important part of
solidifying the commitments you are making to yourself to
build that confidence right away.

LUCID WORKBOOK
STEP 1: GRATITUDE
“Enough is a feast. ”– Buddhist proverb
You’ve got to get out of your own way to have the confidence you desire.
To do this you must change your thoughts. Now, if this were easy,
everyone would do it all the time. Lucky for us, there is a way to ‘hack’
into a new way of thinking, a fresh perspective and another approach
without talking to anyone at all. This begins with gratitude.
Gratitude is scientifically proven to be a cognitive, not just an emotional
process that is deeply rooted in our evolutionary history and DNA. By
first expressing gratitude for whatever situation you are facing, you are
activating specific areas of the brain that offer perspective, moral
cognition and reward. (Whitepaper: The Science of Gratitude – University
of Berkley).

Take a moment to write down here what you are grateful for when it comes to
your confidence. Where has confidence helped you in your life already?
Remember and write it down. Do this as a daily practice from now on.

STEP 2: SHINE
“Shine like the whole universe is yours. ”– Rumi
Get your hair done, put on some nice clothes and smile! This is your time to
shine. This is a quick confidence booster anytime you are feeling down. Even if
there is still nowhere to go in your nice clothes, just do it. If you do not own an
outfit you feel good in, whether that’s because you’ve gained or lost weight,
finances have been tight or whatever the case may be, this is definitely one
investment you need to make.
Many studies have shown that people dress for their mood. Feeling bad? You
will most likely wear clothes that reflect your down mood, such as baggy,
unflattering clothes. To start shaking off your self-doubt is to shake off any
clothes that look like self-doubt. Instead, find a photo of someone you admire
wearing an outfit you like. Find something like what they have at a retail store
and buy it! Wear that to start your shift to Lucid Confidence.
Lucid Moments | How will you SHINE today?
Will you be wearing one of your outfits that you have not put on in a while?
Will you be washing your hair and doing your nails? Dying the grays out?
Getting a facial? Doing your make up? Or perhaps you want to take a step
towards dressing like a person you admire. Hold yourself accountable for
taking your next steps to SHINE. Take a moment to write how you will shine
today.

STEP 3: LUCID AFFIRMATION
“Affirmations open the door. It's the beginning point on the path to

When you have negative self-talk, you have a lack of confidence. Studies have
shown that out of all the self-talk we do in one day, an overwhelming
majority of it is negative (77%).
Negative self-talk sounds like anything (and more) that I listed in the first page
of this guide. It sounds terrible in our heads, but the reality is that this our
brain’s way of trying to protect us. Counter-intuitive right? Yet, this is proven in
the science of how our brains are wired whenever we feel afraid of something.
Maybe you are trying to get a promotion and you keep getting rejected. Maybe
you just got dumped by your boyfriend. Maybe you are afraid of getting laid off
because of all the job cuts around you lately. Any of these things and much
more can feel like an attack on our well-being and attacks on you, lead to the
very strange bodily defense mechanism of negative inner voices telling you
that you are not enough as you are. It’s hard not to listen to the negative talk
when it sounds so loud in your head!
You will need to force some positive self-talk into your inner narrative in
order to balance the confidence scales in your favor. You can do this with a
Lucid Affirmation. A Lucid Affirmation is much like a positive affirmation, but I
really want you to base it on a fact about yourself that you can prove. This is
important to convince your brain that the positive affirmation is true and
thereby it increases the success rate.

STEP 3: LUCID AFFIRMATION CONTINUED
Lucid Moments | Find your Lucid Affirmation
Make a list of the things that make you awesome, I mean really awesome. For
this I urge you to look into any birthday cards, Social Media posts, kind words
from a family member, look around for anywhere something positive that
happened and write it down. Then, create one Affirmation that you can repeat
over and over whenever the negative thoughts take hold. Below I’ve included
an example:
I care about my friends and want to help them
I love my family
I am a good writer
I paid all my bills this month
I recycle and care about the environment
My Lucid Affirmation: I am caring, loving and kind. I find beauty in everything.
This is the affirmation that I repeat to myself whenever a negative thought
creeps in. I get to control and shift my inner dialogue with this at every turn.
I’ve done this so much that I do it every day with a different affirmation. Now
it's your turn!

STEP 4: TINY STEPS

Those of us that are serial-overachievers and perfectionists have a big
tendency to dismiss any small accomplishment. This happens because we have
always told ourselves that we should be working harder or doing even more,
making the small stuff seem insignificant when compared to the bigger goal
we have not achieved yet. This is why it is so important to praise yourself for
even the smallest accomplishment of your goals, so that you can track your
progress.
Tracking progress is also important in solidifying any new behavior, including
building confidence, because it reminds your brain that you are moving
forward. Right now, you can congratulate yourself for the tiny step of
downloading this guide and getting started on your path to achieving your
goals. As you move toward any new goal in your life be sure to track it by
writing it down in you journal and reminding yourself of what you have
accomplished on a regular basis.

Take a moment now to list the tiny steps you have recently taken toward your
goal of building your confidence. Downloading this guidebook and completing

STEP 5: LUCID POWER
“No one is you and that is your power." Dave Grohl
How are you sitting in your chair right now? Are your shoulders slumped? Is your
chin down? Are your legs or ankles crossed? All these physical poses are
indications of a low level of confidence. Many studies conducted by social
psychologists, including Amy Cuddy at Harvard, have demonstrated that if you
adopt a habit of “power posing,” for two minutes even if you don’t feel confident,
you can boost your confidence level.
Start to harness your Lucid Power now by taking some cues from the research to
begin power posing right away. Some great power poses that I use are below. Try
these while standing in front a mirror for two minutes while smiling
Stand with your shoulders back, chin up and arms up in the air like you just won
a race
Do the same as above but with your hands turned into fists and place them on
your hips like Wonderwoman
While sitting at the computer and working, sit with your back straight and
shoulders back

Now, write down which power poses you will commit to doing every day for
two minutes a day!

Ready, Set - Activate Lucid Confidence
Remember, building a new habit of confidence takes time!
Start today and repeat these same five steps every day
until you start to shine with confidence during every
single interaction in your day. After about 30 days of
repetition, these confidence hacks will become part of
your daily life.
If you miss a day, forgive yourself and start again the
next morning.
If you have a terribly bad day full of stress and pitfalls,
then crank up these seven steps and commit to doing
them even stronger.
Once you have adopted Lucid Confidence, you will begin
to see tangible changes in your life at every turn.

Intuition, also known as listening to your gut, gets foggy and clogged
up when we aren’t confident. We lose trust in our inner voice because
there are so many negative voices swirling around causing confusion.
I get it — who wants to trust a voice that spews unhelpful, negative
banter? Once you start to improve your confidence you get the added
benefit of getting better at trusting yourself. It’s just like a BOGO!

external factors. We look outside of ourselves and
find someone or something to blame for our issues.

responsibility for ourselves, for our emotions and
