Research Background Guidelines

The document outlines four patterns for an effective background of the study section in a research paper: 1. Trends - A review of previous and current literature and studies to support arguments about developments or changes regarding the topic. 2. Issues - Information on problems or controversies observed, and an evaluation of the current situation in light of identified trends. 3. Claims - The researcher's stance or point of view, which serves as the research hypothesis. 4. Gap - Problems encountered by previous researchers on the same topic or those that may be encountered, to identify what is still unknown.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The background of the Study is basically an overview of the research study,

and explains why you, as researchers, are doing the study (Prieto, Naval Y Carey,
2017)

- Historial, cultural, academic, scientific findings, debates r arguments

FOUR PATTERNS / GUIDELINES -TO MAKE BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

1. TRENDS
Provide a review of literature and studies or general information
(previous (– the root/historical backbground) and current information) that
will support your arguments
- contains about development and/ or changes about your topic.
Example: Discuss the Distance learning history

2. ISSUES
Provide information of the problem or situation (controversies)
Observation
Evaluate the current situation- na binanggit sa TRENDS (advantage &
disadvantage)
(EXAMPLE: despite the success there are challenges they encounter)
Its like a debate
 This part an important part of …your topic or problem for debate or
discussion (why did you state the article doon sa trend, parang main
objective)
 Parang may findings (how trends impact to respondents/how many
impacted)
Put citation
Example:
Despite the successful story, there are challenges and problems they
encountered / eperienced
In terms of location, signal

3. CLAIMS (your stand / point of view ng researcher)(with widely accepted

ideas-the truths
It serves as the stand of the researchers about the research topic. (parang
hypothesis)
Like for example:
Do you agree that before the electrician success they encountered struggles
in life?
4. GAP (knowledge gap)
This focuses on the problems that were encountered by previous researchers
of the same topic and may be encountered the researcher them
Example:
Anong naging problema
Ano yung kulang, o nag exist na problema, possible problem on the study
Ano yung hindi known

time, personal needs etc.

5. (OPTIONAL)Personal relevance ON how important your study

Provide a Possible solution to the issue
