Lesson
Summary:
With this lesson, students will use the technology that is provided to them such as Ipads or chrome
books from the school and use the skills that they’ve learned and actually use them to figure out
details about all the different living things and their differences.
Estimated This lesson will take about an hour and a half to two hours split up into 8 days with each lesson being
Duration:
15 minutes since I am working with little kids.

materials and I will first get details on the class animal (if there is one), I’ll take picture of animals that I see outside on the iPad,

when looking at the pictures and activities provided by their teacher.

How will the learning environment be set up?
There will be different animals that fall into the same category at different tables and I’ll have different students at
each table and then switch them around every day so they’re doing something different.
Instructional Procedures:
Day 1: Introduction to the new activity. The students will have the choice of what living thing category they want to start
with first and if there are too many kids at one station, I’ll have to split them up, so each table has an even number of
students. I will pass out the “first day” activity stating that they will have to start with matching pictures of baby animals
to their parents. Students are going to cut out each picture and must do a little matching game and have them put what
they think goes together.
Day 2: First, I will allow kids to ask any questions that they might have or want to know about each animal they saw
while matching them up with each other during the first day. Then, start to show them a presentation on the different
types of animals we could start to learn about
Day 3: I would continue on with the presentation and have a brief review of the animals we saw the day before.
I’ll let students ask all the little questions hoping to make learning the animals easier to learn
Day 4: I’ll take my students outside and showing them different living things outside of just animals but then have them
tell me if they see any animals but to be quiet when they see it so the teacher is able to take some pictures of it to show
the students different things on that specific animal compared to another one we saw this day.
Day 5: I’ll upload the pictures to my computer and have them projected up on the board so the students can see the
pictures that were taken yesterday side by side. I’ll call on an individual student have them tell me on things they notice
about the animal I point to.
Day 6: To start out, I’ll have the students get ipads and take pictures of the stuffed animals in the class and then try to go
find something different that doesn’t look like the animal before and take a picture of that and then go sit back down at
their table. Once all the students are done doing that, I’ll have each table talk about what they took pictures of and show
all their classmates the wonderful job that they did. Then, end the day with any questions and then inform them of the
new fun things they are going to learn.
Day 7: The second to last day, I was able to get my school to allow some of the zoo workers to bring in some firry friends
to show around to my classroom. Take this day to let my students enjoy having fun with the zoo members and being
able to see all the different animals that we have learned the past 8 days.
Day 8: On the final day, I have each student tell us about their experience during this learning process.

This website provides you with almost anything you would need to know about living things. I find it a great website
because when you click on a certain tab on the site, it shows you detailed explanations and sometimes pictures of
different types of creatures depending on what you’re looking at.
Differentiated Instructional Support: I will ask my students which animal is which by having them show me by holding
up a picture they have from the days before.
Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling with the material:
I will make sure that these individuals that are struggling, seats are close to mine so if they have an questions at any
point in time, I’m right there next to their desk to help them out.
