LEARNING COMPETENCIES
Reads and interprets electric and water meter readings
KEY CONCEPTS/UNDERSTANDINGS TO BE DEVELOPED:
A. To read electric meters:
1. Always read all the dials from right to left, starting from Dial E to Dial A.
2. Read the number of the pointer of the dial. When the pointer is between two
numbers, the lower number is recorded
3. If the pointer appears to be exactly on a number, check the dial to the right to
find out the correct reading
If the dial on the right has passed zero, then use the number the pointer is
pointing on the dial you are reading
If the dial has passed zero, then make use of the smaller number, then make
use of thee smaller number of the dial you are reading
B. To read water meters:
1. Start reading from right to left (clockwise). Read the number by the pointer of
the dial. When the pointer is between two numbers, the lower number is
recorded.
2. When the pointer is directly on the number, look at the dial to the right. If it
passed zero, use the next higher number. If the dial has not passed zero, use
the lower number.
3. Record the numbers from right to left.
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Read and interpret electric and water meter reading.
2. Record the reading shown by the dials of electric meter and water meter.
3. Wise use of electricity and water
4. Energy and water conservation

Powerpoint Presentation, Model of electric meter and water meter, Plicker Cards,
Mobile Phones, INEC’s Statements of Accounts
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introductory Activities
1. Drill
Mental computation using powerpoint presentation:
Give me number that is
a. One more than 9
b. One more than 99
c. One more than 999
What happens to 9 when you add 1?
2. Review
a. Review on place value and the relationship of each digit to another digit in
a given number. (Using Plicker Apps)

3. Motivation
Ask the pupils the electrical appliances they have at home. Elicit from
them which these consume the most electricity.
Ask the pupils how much they pay for their monthly electric bill. Get
some reactions.
How many of the pupils have faucets?
Do you think water is important? Explain.
Can you save water? How? Why is it necessary for us to save water?
B. Presentation:
Show the whole class a model of an electric meter and water meter model
of a water meter, then identify its parts. Illustrates how the dials move for electric
meter and for water meter. Then the pupils are asked to read the electric and water
consumption as shown by the dials. This is done several times.
Present also problem opener and let them illustrate using the model of an
electric meter.
Lanao Elementary School has just received its ‘Statement of Account’
from INEC for this month of February. Based on its electric bill, last month the
school consumed 01934 kWh. When the collector came to school last Monday
and checked his digital electric meter, the reading is 02020 kWh. How many
kilowatt-hours did the school consume this month?
Let the pupils show the correct dials of the problem presented. Let them
discover how to find the school’s electric consumption for the month of January.
Integrate wise use of electricity and water.
C. Performing the Activities
Divide the pupils into three groups and conduct the Station Rotation. (5-7 minutes
is allotted per station)
Station 1 (Substitution)
Show a video about the electric and water meter reading using these links:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp7dZH2fgUw&pbjreload=10
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZDfSwmyVe0
Let the pupils learn through the video presentation.
Station 2 (Modification)
Using their mobile phones, pupils will answer the 1-5 question Google Form online using
this link: http://bit.ly/Math6Demo
Each member in every group shall submit his/her answer online. (The leaders will
monitor their groupmates to submit their activity)
Station 3 (Redefinition)
Each group shall make and submit three hugot lines expressing conservation of
water and electricity.
D. Generalization
How the dials of electric meter move? How do you read the dial of a meter?
How do you read the water meter? How do you solve for the monthly
consumption?
E. Application
Using their mobile phones, answer the questions presented in Kahoot using this
link: https://create.kahoot.it/preview/616ab7de-fa51-4cc9-b59f-8bfd592a4ff6

F. Fixing Skills
Teacher will distribute INEC’s Statement of Accounts then let the pupils solve by
group. Leaders shall report their outputs.
V. Evaluation
Study the table and answer the questions that follow. Blacken your answer in the
Zipgrade sheets

D. Reuse rinse water from the washing machine.
VI. Assignment
Bring an old electric bill. With your classmate, examine how your electric bill is
computed.
To electric meters:
1. Always read all the dials from right to left, starting from Dial E to Dial A.
2. Read the number of the pointer of the dial. When the pointer is between two
numbers, the lower number is recorded
3. If the pointer appears to be exactly on a number, check the dial to the right to find
out the correct reading
o If the dial on the right has passed zero, then use the number the pointer
is pointing on the dial you are reading
o If the dial has passed zero, then make use of the smaller number, then
make use of thee smaller number of the dial you are reading
To read water meters:
1. Start reading from right tp left (clockwise). Read the number by the pointer of the
dial. When the pointer is between two numbers, the lower number is recorded.
2. When the pointer is directly on the number, look at the dial to the right. If it
passed zero, use the next higher number. If the dial has not passed zero, use the
lower number.
Record the numbers from right to left.
(the teacher show example of electric meter and water meter)
G. Application
Draw a dial to show the readings and get the difference.
1. 4 218
2. 4 732
Miralyn’s records of her family’s water consumption reads this way: initial
reading 0031.495, January 0042.180; February , 0053.921
Answer the questions: What was the average monthly consumption of Miralyn’s
family? What is the equivalent in cubic meter?
VII. Evaluation
A. Give the Reading. Then give the electric consumption.
