CHAPTER I

The Problem

“For the living know that they will die…” (Ecclesiastes 9:5).
The proposed business project entails establishing a funeral home and services
business that will serve the community by providing quality service while making a
profit.
Benjamin Franklin, one of the United States' founding fathers, stated that
"...in this world, nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes!" We are all
aware that death is an unavoidable part of the equation of human existence; death
has existed since the beginning of human existence. Death cannot be avoided, despite
advances in technology, particularly in the medical field. It is the endpoint of people's
lives, and whether an individual likes it or not, it will come to him at an unexpected
time, so the importance of preparing for it cannot be overstated.
Funerals have been practiced since the dawn of time, with every culture having
some form of ritual for the dead. Many of these rituals are religious in nature and
differ greatly from place to place and from religion to religion. A number of landmark
events have occurred throughout the long history of funerals. Egyptians began
embalming their dead around 4,000 BC. Mummification, a type of embalming, was
widely practiced, with a person's social standing influencing how well their bodies
were preserved. Royalty, such as King Tutankhamun, were mummified and entombed
in ornate cases known as sarcophaguses. Catacombs, the largest of which were in the
Paris, France area, were used to "store" the dead around the same time in Europe. Six
million people are said to be buried in these tunnels beneath the city, which are now
a popular tourist attraction. The Romans are said to have been the first to use
columbarium’s in the first century after Christ's death. These are structures or rooms
that house urns containing human ashes. To this day, columbarium’s are an option for
storing ashes in churches and cemeteries. Some Native American tribes in North
America used earthen mounds to bury their dead, many of which can still be seen
right here in Ohio.
In today's world, the funeral industry is widespread. Some people go so far as
to purchase insurance to cover their own funeral costs if they die, whereas others
state clearly in their 'will' the type of funeral they would prefer. This demonstrates
that the funeral industry will always thrive as long as humans exist.
Many different burial practices have emerged as a result of different cultures
from various regions of the Philippines. The Manobo’s, for example, buried their dead
in trees, whereas the Ifugao’s seated the corpse on a Chari before transporting it to a
cave and burying it elsewhere. Traditional burials, such as supine pits, earthenware
jars, and log coffins, have piqued the interest of Philippine archaeologists since the
early twentieth century.
If you are looking for a business that will always provide services that will
never go out of style, then getting into the funeral business is something you should
think about. Because of the delicate and emotional nature of the funeral business,
most people would rather engage in another type of business. However, the fact
remains that this business will always exist as long as humans exist.

RATIONALE
Funerals have been with us since the dawn of time because they help us
transition from life before death to life after death.
A service honors the person's life in a special way. Among its many functions, it
assists us in acknowledging the death, remembering the life, and mobilizing support
during this naturally difficult time. The memorial service helps survivors confront the
reality of death, which is the first major step toward removing grief from the inside
and allowing us to express it on the outside through mourning.
A funeral allows friends and family to express their love and respect for
someone who was important to them. Seeing how much others care can often help a
family adjust to their loss. Funerals have been used for thousands of years to express
our beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. It allows us to accept that someone we care about
has died and to say our final goodbyes.
PARADIGM
A research paradigm is a method or model for conducting research that has
been validated by the research community for a long time and has been in use for
hundreds of years.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to prove the effectiveness and efficiency of having unique
strategies. It also intends to give customers a means to commemorate a person's life
when it comes to an end, as well as a method for the living to gather support and go
on with their lives. Specifically, this seeks answer the following questions:

1. What is the preferred service quality and characteristics?

2. What is the location and the population of our target market?
3. What is the products demand and supply?
4. What is use for marketing strategy?

Methodology
The researchers employed a qualitative research design. To understand
concepts, opinions, or experiences, qualitative research entails gathering and
evaluating non-numerical data (e.g., text, video, or audio). The qualitative methods
provide rich and versatile information about the research. It can be utilized to get in-
depth understanding of a subject or to develop fresh research ideas. The research
questions were addressed mainly by qualitative methods such as questionnaire . A
questionnaire is a research tool that consists of a set of questions or other forms of
prompts designed to gather data from a respondent.

Significance of the Study

This research would be beneficial to the researcher to establish a funeral
service. The study also benefits the various sectors as follows:
People in the community. The direct recipient of this study is the community.
They can express their love and respect for someone who was important to them.
Grieving family and friends. Funerals provide an opportunity for bereaved
people to say their final goodbyes and lament with their loved ones.

Future researcher. The next researcher will use this as a base for their
research.

Scope and Delimitation of Study

This study focuses on establishing a funeral service. The data collection will be
conducted to 15 randomly selected person in Leones West, Tubao, La Union who will
represent the population.
The results of this study will only applicable to the researchers of this study
and also the next researcher who want to establish a funeral service and will not be
used as a measure to the knowledge of the interviewee. The main source of the data
will be the questionnaire, which is prepared by the researcher.

CHAPTER II
Marketing Aspects

Product/Service Description
The proposed business idea is developing a funeral home and services company
that will serve the community by delivering high-quality service while also making a
profit. To assist the family in coping with their loss, the proposed business project
would also provide simple meal services to visitors who attend the wake, allowing
family members and friends of the deceased to spend more time remembering their
loved ones who have died. The company will also provide photo coverage for the
deceased's wake or viewing, as well as their burial. The latter two are left to the
discretion of family members. The planned business endeavor will mostly involve
attending to the client's deceased family member's wake. From the hospital, where
the funeral wake will be held, through the burial location, the company will
accommodate the customer's demands. Following the hospital's agreement to release
the body, the company will transfer the body to a funeral home for embalming. The
embalmer will be responsible for providing his or her own embalming materials.
Service staff will transfer the equipment to the location where the funeral wake will
be held while the embalming process is in progress. After that, the deceased will be
transferred to the funeral wake venue once the embalming process is completed.
During this time, all of the family's requests were fulfilled. As long as the firm can
handle it, the wake period will be entertained. After the wake, the deceased will be
carried to the burial or cremation location.
Comparison of the Product with Competitor

Product comparison is useful for items with certain characteristics that are
relevant in making a purchasing decision. Selga Funeral Homes is a competition that
we have here in Tubao. Selga Funeral Houses is one of Tubao's most well-known
funeral homes. They are funeral houses that provide good service at a moderate cost.
They are in Tubao, La Union, beside the highway. Many people go there because of
the low prices and the fact that it is conveniently located on the highway. While
Libing Things provides excellent service at a reasonable price, it is not a regional
company. The location is simple to discover because it is close to Amianan Motors, a
landmark in Leones East Tubao, La Union.

Market Area
One of the most important elements to consider when beginning a business is
location. The proposed business project would be located in Tubao La Union's
Barangay Leones East. Barangay Leones East is the most populous among the others in
terms of population.
Purok I, Barangay Leones East, Tubao, La Union was the location. It's not far
from Amianan Motors. As a funeral home, we chose a location that is a little further
away from the adjacent homes.
Market Share
The total sales of the funeral industry in the Philippines within the year 2019 is
Php6.1 Billion while with Libing Things sales over the year is Php140,000,000. The
market share of Libing Things is 2.295.
