Filipinos are great imitators of America because we think that we are left behind by
them. Truly, the world is fast changing and the common trends came from outside our
country which we imitate and follow. Aside from that, Filipinos still have colonial
mentality. We were colonized by the Americans before, and we somehow recognize
their influence to us up until now. But having colonial mentality is negative because it is
having the mindset of inferiority. Examples of Filipinos imitating American, is having the
idea and mindset of being liberal. We know that western country are liberated especially
the way they dressed. Philippines nowadays follow and imitate their clothing which is
somehow not open to us because we are not used in liberality. Next, is in language.
Filipinos patronize English language rather than our native language. Aside from it
being our second language, we tend to use English more, rather than our own because
we wanted to look smart. Along with it, is the food because of what we see on the
internet, and which is appetizing and pleasing to the eyes. Last, is the lifestyle. We
imitate the lifestyle of the Americans since their lifestyle is much improved than ours
compared to technology, so we tend to imitate it as well as their taste in style and
design.
