Dedicated pump and fan functionality –
Intelligent features
2 x PID controller 2-Zone PID controller
Controls pressure, flow, Controls two process values in parallel, for
temperature etc. based on example main control value is temperature,
measurement signal from sensor secondary control value is flow
2nd controller e.g for Sleep Mode
Start Boost valve control Stops the pump/drive
Increases starting automatically during
torque to ensure pump periods of low demand.
starts in all conditions Restarts when pressure
drops below threshold

Dry Pump / Belt Sleep Boosting

Broken Supervision Temporarily increases
Stops the pump or fan system pressure before
when there is not entering sleep mode to
enough torque on the maximize restart time
motor shaft

Auto-cleaning / Anti- No Demand Detection

ragging Ensures that the pump
Detects abnormal doesn’t run at
increase in torque when unnecessarily high speeds
pump is blocked and to maintain pressure
runs cleaning sequence during periods of no
demand

Frost protection for pump Soft filling of pipes Pressure loss compensation
Restarts the pump automatically Runs the pump at a lower fixed Compensates pressure reference for
when in sleep mode to avoid risk of speed until a pressure increase drop in pressure in piping or ducting
pump freezing indicates that the pipe is full after the measurement sensor

Pump System Diagnostics

● Maintenance diagnostics for pumps in MultiPump systems.

● Run Time counters for all pumps.
● Possible to set maintenance alarms/faults
● Possible to push the pump last in the starting order if it has reached
the maintenance alarm limit.

28 | Department (slide master)

2-Zone PID control

● 2 different feedbacks
● Min/Max/Average/Sum/Diff/SQRT
functions
● Same setpoint or different setpoint.
● Same setpoint if e.g. regulating on
minimum temperature from 2
sensors.
● Different setpoints if regulating e.g.
on both flow and pressure.
● Flow during normal operation, but
based on pressure if valve is
closed.
● Regulation on minimum or
maximum error.

29 | Department (slide master)

Sleep Function (PID Control)

● Puts the drive into sleep mode (standby) if the process allows
● Drive will wake up again when if process/actual value goes
below defined limits

30 | Department (slide master)

Sleep Function with boosting

● Boost the controlled process value to a defined

point above the setpoint before going to sleep.

● To avoid unnecessary cycling of the

motor/pump.

● Excellent for hydrofor applications or small

leakage in the piping system.

31 | Department (slide master)

No Demand Detection

● Detection of a No Demand/Flow situation

● Forcing the frequency down and allowing the drive going into sleep
mode if possible

● Enters normal control mode again if needed due to process

feedback.

32 | Department (slide master)

Pressure Loss Compensation

● Compensates for pressure drop along the piping due to miss-placed

pressure sensor.
● Pressure sensors are usually installed direct after the pump, but the
point to be controlled is further along the piping system.
● At no usage, the pressure stays the same.
● At usage, the pressure drops along the pipe.

Sensor at position 1, but pressure to be

controlled is actually at position 2

33 | Department (slide master)

Frost Protection

● Keeps the pump running at a minimum

fixed frequency to avoid the pumped
medium/liquid freezing.

● Based on temperature measurement from

the pump.

● Alarm generation to indicate the risk of

frost and the pump being started

34 | Department (slide master)

Start Boost

● Gives an extra torque boost at start

● To get the pump running

● Especially good in waste water where the pump might be clogged

● …or..
● some positive displacement pumps which might require a high
starting torque.

35 | Department (slide master)

Soft Fill

● The Soft Fill -function is used to

bring the process to a certain
level/pressure at slow speed before
the PID Controller kicks in.

● This function can be used e.g. to fill

the empty piping slowly, avoiding
“water hammers” that could
otherwise break the pipes.

36 | Department (slide master)

Auto-Cleaning

● The function is used to remove any dirt or stuff that may have
attached to the pump impeller. E.g. in waste water systems.
● Auto Cleaning function can also be used to clear the blocked pipe
or valve.
● Activation based on DI, Real Time Clock, Current Limit

37 | Department (slide master)

Priming Pump

● Priming pump is a smaller pump which is

used to prime the inlet of the bigger
main pump to prevent the main pump
from sucking air.

● Controlled with digital output

● Started before the main pump

38 | Department (slide master)

Jockey Pump

● Jockey pump is a smaller pump

which is used to keep up the
pressure in the pipe line e.g. during
night time when the main pump is
in sleep mode.
● Jockey pump function is used to
control a smaller jockey pump by
digital output signal.

39 | Department (slide master)

Process Supervision

● Used to supervise that the actual/process value stays within

allowed limits.
● Identify e.g. pipe leakage or if an unstable process goes
outside the limits
