Shivani Kothawade - Elective-3

This document summarizes the experiences and learnings of a fourth year architecture student from their workshop. Some key points: 1) The student found the workshop very insightful and it helped them understand architecture's impact on human psychology and experience in new ways. 2) They learned about concepts like color theory, building biology, and how to create memorable experiences and break conventions through design. 3) Going forward, the student wants to further explore how materials, spaces and other factors can influence mood and behavior, and how architecture can promote creativity. 4) Their question is whether architects can design in a way that improves people's efficiency and reduces internal dissonance in the environment.

MVP’S COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE , NASHIK

Fourth year Architecture 2021-22

The overall experience of the workshop was very mind opening ,giving a different perception towards
environment and architecture. Each day has contributed in my mind and each day got a different experience.
The best part is I got to know my association with surrounding , architecture , environment more deeply .
Each session was pretty interactive that helped me to grow more within myself.
I have learnt how architecture gives a huge psychological impact on a human being. How we associate the
places around us through mind map exercise. How colour theory works . How we can give an unforgettable
experience to people through architecture in urban level also in structural level. Breaking the ordinary and
unlatch the boundries through your design. Learnt the different structure worldwide and the story behind it.
In guest lecture got introduced to building biology which was absolutely new to me . The difference between
registhesia and anesthesia. Vastushastra , vastushilpa, bio- energy , sick building symptoms etc.

While designing I would do the implementation of the environment psychology while thinking about the user
interface and experience. The further avenue which I would like to explore in more detail about the
materials , space building , and architectural parameters and variables that might alter one's mood,
behavior, productivity, effectiveness, and attitude.

Are architects able to design buildings whose frameworks help to promote the creativity and reduce social
and internal dissonance of people and try to increase its efficiency in the environment? This question arises
in my mind and want to research more about it in RIA . For now low cost housing techniques and planning is
my topic in that I would try to explore the building biology aspect, senses in architecture and space
association about the architectural environment psychological parameters.

ENTRANCE
The entrance and the road are having most significant impression in my Because of the
mind. The yellow angular wall is a first start to a remarkable journey of courtyard play of
green pathway having lush flora and fauna , different types of trees and light and shadow
bushes , plants is my most joyable journey which improves my attention, happens
lower stress, and I get into a better mood.

AMPHITHEATER AND PATHWAY

The amphitheatre gives me
connected feeling and I have tifin COURTYARD OR
memories there in morning time. It
opens my mind thinking of design QUADRANGLE
and reduce my fear, and stress. I
enjoy that place and being around it
because it connects me to sky. The
vehicles and parking spot it’s a very
hurry place for me because I am late
comer .
3. KNOW YOURSELF
3. Know Yourself

My Insane memory- The way I groomed in my home from childhood is in attentive way. As a very
special cute child but simultaneously I was with my Father’s friend who is communist and socialist so I
used to enjoy his compony ,thoughts and that gave me very defensive and outspoken attitude. Also an
awareness about how poor , addivasi people live there life how we can help them grow a very social
approach. I was quite bold and had my opinions in childhood especially as girl child. I was more towards
feminism. So my darkest memory is when I had my first periods at 7th standard. I came to know about
my periods through my Cousin Sister and I remember the walk we had in a garden when she told me.
But the most disappointing thing was my mom didn’t tell me about it so when the periods came into
the picture I was standing in our old apartment balcony and looking at the view of trees and a rich
banglow house outside and thinking of why is this happening to me also the Richness of that banglow
the huge architecture of that banglow having a temple at entry a long driveway ,landscape and the total
white colour I really noticed that and thought “God when it can be mine?” Why I am going through
this? And I couldn’t forget this.

The most joyful memory -The earliest memory in my mind when I was 4 years and there was a in
nursery school It was first time I performed on stage and that stage I felt really happy at that time after
that the stage was a really good place for me to perform specially dance. The stage space is itself a
passionate memory. After that till now I love to dance or perform and love to explore the backstage the
main stage space and audience reactions , the entrance of the auditorium and that too fascinated me as
a design of public space. As I am a Kathak Dancer which I started learning from 2ND std.
Emotions- 1. Serene – But only when somebody is with me or if the trees are ending immediately to open
space
Memory – Even if I love trees and love being alone there but the perspective of scary visuals on
television/series made me little conscious about it.
2. Conscious – If I am alone.
3. Adventurous – I always go to treks , love the jungle trails , camping and also I love to being
in a nature always So when I looked on this picture wanted to explore it in adventurous.
4. Joyous – I am a kathak dancer and always want to dance in natural places ,be free, move
where ever I want to and I love myself a lot in nature. So I feel joy even if I shoot in outdoor too!
Comfortable – I always wanted a sit outside the station in local or metro or any major station so if I see
the station where no one is on that bench the I would definitely be happy. I had a memory on station
of standing long hours on station
Lonely – If no one is around then I will feel little unsafe and lonely as I am a little extrovert and feel
safe if someone is around me
4. KNOW YOUR SPOT

5. KNOW YOUR COLOR
Lilac colour is the colour of helpfulness and
serenity , an overall likeable hue ,lilac is sweet,
endearing and welcoming .Its always up for a
good time and knows how to live in the
moment .However, this colour is also
extremely delicate and gets offended easily .It
can also be impossible to perceive.

I like skyblue, red and lilac colour so ,

it was difficult for me to decide. But I came to
conclusion that I love lilac colour slightly more
from childhood. From 2-3 year old till I turned
13 I used to paint the newspaper’s drawing ,
tones of drawing notebooks with oil pastels
colors . The best part for me to make shadings
out of it like from pink-purple-lilac-lavender-
violet or yellow- orange- red and many more Read the word “lilac,” and you
like that , so from all of them I started liking can almost smell the heady,
lilac color shade. And I have the great sweet scent of the flowers that
memories associated with it in childhood. bloom for two blissful weeks
From collecting the flowers , wearing it at the end of May. The color
sometimes , using it in my most of the does take its name from the
drawings. flower — a light purple shade
with a slightly pinkish hue on
the tips.
• the uniqueness of the color which I associate to myself implies a
willingness to stand out and go against the crowd. Expression of
emotions or personality is more important than people’s opinions.

• Lilac often has strong connections to feminine qualities, such as caring,

being emotional and nurturing. This femininity manifests in putting the
needs of others before their own, helpfulness and avoiding
confrontations.
• Putting one’s emotions at the forefront can sometimes result in loss of
emotional control, which goes back to immaturity. Being open to many
different perspectives and suggestions can sometimes lead to indecision.

Preference for various shades changes with my moods and what I see it in for example
clothes, facades, furniture ,decore ,shoes etc. This color provides me a uniqueness of standing
out with confidence and It always makes me happy and I always dream about going in a
natural place where these flower gardens are there.

I love to eat these fruits with this color

And also I love everything which exist
in it

I believe because it is the color of my aura. I am very loving , enthusiastic

and in my own world also emotionally balanced person but when I'm
around the color lilac, I am less nervous and more comfortable and
communicative in the presence of others.I feel it’s a happy color and having
its own pride and identity . As I have stronger focus and also being more
sociable and compassionate. I encourage spiritual thinking, creativity and it
gives calming and soothing influences.
6. KNOW YOUR SAFTEY AND IDENTITY
YOUR PLACE OF SAFTEY AND IDENTITY
Home- The place where we are most stable ,secure and comfortable. The enclosure space
where I have sunlight, wind, food, other necessity ,protection from whether and loved
ones presence around me. That’s why It is the place of identity and safety

Krishi Nagar jogging track – The Place

where I have most of my memories
with friends . Even if there is not a
single person in track I ll feel safe
there because it’s a lively place
surrounded by trees and sunlight and
a great track where I can run and walk.
The association here is my
cherrishable moments there and my
workout memories . Compared to golf
club jogging track which is nearest to
my home I get much good vibes on
Krushi nagar track. Why? Because of
surrounding people behaviour and From this I have observed myself that I feel
background. On golf there are guys safe at any place where the people have
come from slum area and watch the already visited or there are one or more
people running ,they do noise and people minding there own business. Even If I
don’t behave good on public place am alone I would feel safe there. The place
where on Krishi nagar people mind where something is happening even in night. I
there own business and behave would prefer my own vehicle or auto , cab in
appropriately and have good night or in dark if the pedestrian journey is on
etiquettes. a silent street. But if the street is also
happening I can go by walk .
“those dimensions of self that define the individual’s personal identity
in relation to the physical environment by means of a complex pattern
of conscious and unconscious ideas, feelings, values, goals,
preferences, skills, and behavioral tendencies relevant to a specific
environment”

So the attachment of people that matters in a place. I feel most safe

when I am surrounded with my best buddies. In an urban
environment ,the places having hustle bustle and light where there
are no grey areas I can feel comfortable. On street where there is no
light or even having light not appropriate people , underdeveloped
loop holes and a scary surrounding I will be alert and super conscious.

The image is potreying activity of people at different time intervals and how the place changes its character
in different interval of time. Likewise When there is a safety factor how that public place is surrounded with
that matters . For e.g. If the place is exact at a center of city / near any junction / node , having numorous
shops ,outlets around then I would definitely go there even there are less people. But If this scenario is
replaced with a park on very underrated street I would not prefer to go. This is my identity of a place.

SICK BUILDING ANALYSIS
A COMMERCIAL BUILDING ON ASHOK STUMBH, NASHIK

A small commercial building near

ashok sthamba is G+1 structure
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH designed in very unorganized, thrifty
SPACE FOR ENTRANCE way. I have the feeling of
uncomfortness and not going again in
that building associated with it.
WHY?
Firstly not a significant entrance. When
we go to ashok sthambh we are unable
to trace it at 1st place .
There is not appropriate parking space
for visitors specially who gets a car. We
are unable to see the steps and
entrance at 1st place because there are
4 different small entrances done by
individual shop owners.
• The parking is occupied by
employees working there.
• Not enough hygene.
• Not enough light and ventilation
• As we go inside it becomes more
breathless and stuffy. This building
also need to paint and renewation.
The shops are very dull there also
the persons gives weired look over
