Lesson Plan in Math (Ratio)

The document outlines a lesson plan for teaching ratios to 5th grade students. It includes objectives, materials, procedures involving group activities to identify and express ratios visually and numerically. Students will compare values through examples like chairs to tables and ice cream containers to tables to understand ratios and equivalent ratios.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

GRADE V-AMAHOY
4A’s

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of 50-minute lesson, the Grade V- AMAHOY should be
able to do the following with at least 70% level of accuracy.
a. visualize the ratio of two given sets of objects
b. express the ratio of two numbers using either the colon (:) or a fraction
c. identify and write equivalent ratios

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Visualizing Ratio
Reference: Number Smart page 183-191 and Mathematics in Action page 178-
183

III. MATERIALS
 Chart
 Pictures

IV. PROCEDURE
A. ACTIVITY
Hello Class I am Ma’am Amahoy and I am going to be your teacher
this afternoon now when I say “Good afternoon” I want you all to please
stand up! Good Afternoon Class! (Good afternoon Ma’am Amahoy) Are
you ready for today’s lesson? (Yes ma’am) What can you see in the board?
(2 empty basket) yes very good! These 2 empty baskets will represent how
active and participative are you in today’s discussion so the students here
on my left will be the team A and the students here in my right will be the
team B and this pops tickles will serve as your points and by the end of this
lesson, the group with the most number of pops stickle will receive a price.

TEAM A TEAM B

1. MOTIVATION
Have you ever invited your friends in your birthday party? (YES) Wow you’re like
my friend. His name is Carlo and you know what, Carlo is very friendly, his friends with
all the students in his class. Since Carlo is going to celebrate his birthday soon, his friends
and his mother decide to give Carlo a birthday party. His mother ordered 5 tables, 30
chairs and 10 half gallons of ice cream. Now she is wondering how is she going to divide
it. Can you help Carlo’s mom? (Yes) You need to arrange the tables and chairs and, at the
same time, distribute the ice cream among the tables and to know what is its ratio.

B. PRESENTATION

How many chairs are there for each table? (There are 6 chairs for every table.) How many
half-gallon containers of ice cream are there for each table? (there are 2 half gallon
containers of ice cream for every tables) Can anyone tell me how to read this in ratio? If
there are 6 chairs in every table, how can you express it in ratio? (6:1, read as to “six is to
one” where colon is read as “Is to”) Very good! Now, how can we express the ratio of
half gallon container of ice cream for each table? (or 2:1, read as “Two is to one”) Aside
from “:“ you can also read it in fraction.

A. ANALYSIS
1. Who can tell to the class what is ratio? (A ratio compares values.)
2. How did you figure the ratio? (By visualizing and comparing)
3. How can I write a ratio? (You can write it as “:” or in fraction)

VISUALIZING RATIO

A ratio compares values visually

Ratio can be written as

You can write it as “:”

or in fraction.

To find an equal ratio, you can either

B. Abstraction multiply or divide

Now we will be having an activity. But before doing an activity what are the things
we must consider? (Cooperate with the group….) can I expect this from you? (Yes)

Group 1

Give me the ratio of watch to umbrella

Group 2
Give me the ratio of Donut to lollipop

Choose 1 representative to explain how di you come up with the answer. For you to
understand more I have here 3 example. Very good! Who can come to the board and
give me the ratio of the given example.

Generalization
Now who can tell me what is ratio? (Ratio is ……) How do you think we can write a
ratio? (By : or in fraction form) What are the 2 operations that we use in finding
ratio? (Multiplication and division) Very good! It seems like you already understood
our lesson.

C. Application
Do you want to play? (Yes!) At this moment we will have a game. The game I have
prepared here is called “Para una”. I will show some example in the screen, all you
need to do is to give me the ratio but the twist is, you can only answer if you were
able to flip the bottle and make it stand. In every round, choose 1 member to go here
in front to answer and to flip the bottle.

Direction: Give the ratio asked in the following situation.

1. Divide the drinking glass equally among the pitchers on the right.
What is the ratio of the drinking glasses per pitcher? ___________
2. Compare the number of packs of seeds to the number of children planting
them. Express in ratio. _________

3. Give the ratio of hens to chicken. ________

4. Give the ratio of mango to tree. _____

EVALUATION
Direction: Draw examples of the following ratios. Then, give an
equivalent ratio. Write your answer in the space provided.

1. 2:5__________

2. 4:12_________

3. 6:15__________
