VERNACULAR HOUSES IN THE PHILIPPINES

Vernacular dwellings are constructed to represent the cultural practices and


historical events that occur in a certain location. The Philippines has the most creative
people in the world, and the houses from various parts of the nation demonstrate how
vast our culture is. Everything is done to represent how we live in such a period on a
distinct timeframe. Based on the video presentation it shows how Philippine became
one of the most vernacular house existed until today. The cave is the country's
prehistoric habitation, the wooden houses and even tree houses are discussed in the
video. Each dwellings are very unique in a way that can fulfill their built environment and
lifestyle. During that time period, the cave was constantly there and ready for usage by
anybody. In fact earliest dwelling people in the Philippines found in the largest cave call
“Tabon Cave” complex in Southwest Palawan. According to U.S. Embassy in the
Philippines: The Tabon Cave Complex is listed as a National Cultural Treasure in the
Philippine Registry of Cultural Properties ( 2011). The “Tabon cave” is consist of dragon
cliffs and slopes and consists of 200 caves and rock shelters. There are other given
examples of caves and rock-made architecture that has been inhabitant of early
Filipinos. In Angono, Rizal they have a Petroglyps is one of the evidence that early
Filipino embellish this dwelling. You may indeed find a prehistoric settlement named
"Ijang" atop the mountain, which is primarily composed of limestones. It also includes
Filipinos' early technique for collaborating particular sorts of minerals, wood, animals, or
plants to construct their shelter. There are also Aeta's prehistoric dwellings, which
appear to be largely a shade for them. Because they are continually changing sites, the
design serves a function. Then there's something constructed among the tree branches.

our educator since we began. This home is elevated, with a underfloor space called
“silong” is utilized for storage for belongings or animals. This type of stilt house
indigenous to the Philippines is built to aid from floods. The entire structure can be lift up
to change location as well. It is discussed that that the Bahay-kubo are made of light –
materials. The presentation just show us all of this is clear evidence left for us by our
ancestors. They are the core to what we have today in our society.
As a result, Philippine vernacular architecture is the work of non - professional
architects. Every early house's architectural design is dependent on the availability of
local materials and resources, as well as a reflection of their customs. The simplicity of
the built dwellings, including caves, demonstrates how they reflect their way of life. The
good thing is they influence the modern generation that leads to several trials and error
to assembling materials to make a perfect habitations.
