AGE LEVEL SPECIALIZATION COURSE

PRE-TASKS

1. What distinguishing characteristics of girls in the different Five Age Levels will
you be able to help them the most?

- About being resilient and dependable all the time. I can help them to be more responsible
and at the same time being a resilient and dependable girl scout of their own troops. We
must create an activity for them to develop the said traits/characteristics.

2. Give two developmental tasks in each of the Five Age Levels that you think should be
addressed during this pandemic. Provide the reason/s why these are important.

• Twinklers (Pre-Schoolers)
- following through with appropriate consequences to teach about cause and effect and to
teach children to be accountable for their choices.
- allowing them to make decisions about things that impact them so they gain a sense of
control over their lives.

• Star (6-9 years old; Grades 1-3)

- allowing children to see the results of their behavior by imposing appropriate

consequences and following through with the consequences you set.
- letting them make decisions about things that affect them, to the degree that their
judgment allows.

• Junior (9-12 years old; Grades 4-6)

- helping them to understand their feelings and identify the feelings of others.
- teaching them to solve problems so they can deal with conflict and life’s challenges.

• Senior (13-15 years old; Junior High School)

- experimenting with different values and deciding their own values.
- learning about how to relate to the opposite sex.

• Cadet (16- above: Senior High School / College level / Young Professionals)
- establishing their own identity
- separating emotionally from parents
3. Create a simple activity on the GSP Eight-Point Challenge Program for the age
level you are handling using the online platform.

Eight Point Challenges:

1. Challenge of Spirituality and Well-Being
2. Challenge of Family Life
3. Challenge of Economic Self-Sufficiency
4. Challenge of Environment
5. Challenge of Preparedness
6. Challenge of Heritage and Citizenship
7. Challenge of the Arts
8. Challenges of World Community

Conduct an overnight camping for the girl scouts of our school, and troops.

4. Fill-out each box with one word that best describes a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

Leadership Understanding

Commitment Volunteerism
WHAT IS A GIRL
SCOUT TROOP
LEADER?

Creativity Trustworthiness

Cooperation Adventorousness
5. As a Troop Leader in your respective age level, how would you rate the extent of
your functions in Troop Management from scale of 1 to 10? (1 - lowest 10 - highest)
Please state the reason for your rating.
- I rate myself in troop management 8 because I think I am capable of handling the troop
members assign to me in my respective age level. However, I am open also for some
room of improvement in my leadership skills that’s why I rate myself 8 out of 10.

6. Follow the instructions given for the Puzzle Activity.

1. List the first 3 words that you can see.

- Thinking Day
- Investiture
- Scouts

2. After listing them, write one word connected to each other.

- Scouts

3. Choose 1 word among the 3 found words and write something about it on one sentence.
- Thinking Day - It is a day when they think about their "sisters” (all other girl scouts
around the world) in all the countries of the world, the meaning of Guiding, and its global
impact, also to commemorate the birthdate of the founder of the Girl-Scout/Girl Guiding
around the world.
7. Look for sample Girl Scout Ceremonies and familiarize yourself on how they
are being prepared and carried out.

An investiture is a traditional Girl Scout ceremony designed to welcome new members to our
sisterhood—both girls and adults alike! And they make for a great way to start the Girl Scout year,
since their primary focus is on honing new members’ understanding of, and dedication to, the Girl
Scout Promise and Law. Like any great Girl Scout ceremony, an investiture is super customizable
based upon the age and interests of your group, and should always be girl-led.
Whether your girls choose something formal and intimate or casual and fun, these are the 3 key
elements all investitures should include:
• New members should understand the meaning of the Girl Scout Promise before
becoming members and should recite it at some point during the ceremony
• New members should be verbally welcomed into the troop and Girl Scout Movement
• New members should be presented with their membership pin—remember, Daisies and
Brownies have special membership pins
And that’s really all there is to it… the rest is up to you and your girls! Typically, a ceremony is
designed around 3 parts: an opening, in which you welcome the group and set the tone of the
ceremony; a main section, where you’ll actually do your investiture; and a closing, where you’ll
leave the group with an inspiring takeaway. Starting with these sections as your guides, you can
build your ceremony around the unique interests of your troop. Do your girls love to sing? An
investiture is the perfect time for a song like On My Honor. Or if they love to perform, a skit might
be a fun touch. Have a group of Brownies getting invested? Tying in pieces of The Brownie
Story could be a great launching point.

8. Search on YouTube for the songs below which are being used in certain Girl Scout
Ceremonies. Sing them with all you heart.
Escoda Memorial Hymn
Thinking Day
Escoda Memorial Hymn
O thou great founder
Champion of girlhoods cause
Come we in homage share
As now we pause
Grateful are we to thee
In all humility
We’ll pray for thy repose, in Gods own home
Here are thy children, Blest by thy love and care
Girls scouting marches on, Lured by thy hand
Faithful and true will be in all activity
Escoda mother dear, Honors to thee
List to are praising Dear name we all revere
Our gifts of love we bring
Pure and sincere
Thy life our torch and guide
Where’er girl scouting Goes
Escoda nations pride
Love and adore
