Motivation
The term motivation has been derived from the team ‘motive’
which means an idea, need emotion or organic state which
prompts a man to an action. As it is within the individual, we
must study needs, emotions of person those induce a person to
perform or exert the efforts. Thus motivation is a process of
getting needs of the people realized and to induce them to work
for the accomplishment of organization objectives.
A motive is an inner state that energizes, activates, or moves and
directs or channels behaviour goals.” – Berelson & Steiner
Eg desire for money, success, recognition, job-satisfaction,
job team
work, etc

Maslow’s Need Hierarchy
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs was
oposed by a humanistic
ychologist, Abraham Maslow in
943.
Our most basic need is for physical
rvival, and this will be the first
ing that motivates our behavior.
nce that level is fulfilled the next
vel up is what motivates us, and
on.

Vroom’s Expectancy Theory of Motivation
Victor Vroom’s expectancy theory of motivation is a process theory
of motivation.. It says that an individual’s motivation is affected by
their expectations about the future.
Specifically, Vroom says that an individual’s motivation is affected by
how much they value any reward associated with an action (Valence),
how much they believe that by putting effort into something they will
be able to generate good results (Expectancy) and how much they
believe that generating good results will result in a reward
(Instrumentality).
