Values of Modern Filipinos
All Filipinos still hold traditional values in their hearts, despite the changes in
beliefs and actions in this modern world. Family-centered, faith- and virtue-based,
compassionate for others (kapuwa), resiliency, flexibility, optimism, adaptability,
industriousness, generosity, and education-focused are still core components of
traditional Filipino values in the modern. Furthermore, Filipinos stress the significance of
societal values that are still relevant to contemporary, such as good leadership, love of
nation, honesty and integrity, value of one's own life, purpose in life, resilience, and
happiness. Additionally, in today's modern world, the bulk of Filipino values are primarily
motivated by the need to fit in and are centered on maintaining social harmony. The
main barrier to straying from these guidelines is the Tagalog concepts of hiya, which is
commonly translated as "a sense of shame," and "amor propio," which is translated as
"self-esteem."
In these present times, our values maybe influenced by different factors such as
family, experiences new trends, or others. Thus, I believe that it is crucial for us to
understand all modern Filipino values in order to understand what essential modern
values we must uphold in today's world. Additionally, being aware of modern values
encourages us to consider what values we should cultivate and put into practice, as well
as which ones we don't necessarily need to, given the variety of circumstances we face
in daily life. Currently, essential modern values are noticeable nowadays. I've seen that
one of the values of modern Filipinos in our society are their capacity for resiliency,
flexibility, and adaptation. Despite the difficulties they face, modern Filipinos can
navigate the difficulties that arise during this crucial moment of transition, enabling them
to strive for long-term success. However, I have noticed that too much freedom and
curiosities are among the bad values of modern Filipinos. They are eager to explore
new things, which could put them in danger and risk their lives. Additionally, they appear
to have lost any sense of modesty when it comes to their clothing and appears
liberated.
Considering that each modern Filipinos was raised differently it's inevitable and
undeniable that some modern Filipinos especially the younger ones tend to forget the
values such as modesty, commitment, and thoroughness. They frequently dress
indecently when it comes to fashion. They frequently eradicate the significance of
loyalty and faithfulness in relationships. Most of all, they have a shorter attention span,
which makes it harder for them to concentrate on a task at hand. To eradicate all of
these, each of us plays a significant role, especially as a teacher. As a modern Filipino
teacher, we may help young people transform their drawbacks into positive ones by
encouraging them to quit acting out and by frequently observing and evaluating their
behavior. We would value them and continuously confirm their value to the community if
they were able to demonstrate excellent moral behavior. The most essential thing is that
we should always try to lead by example for the younger generation. Additionally, our
youngsters nowadays are affected by contemporary Filipino values in a way that directs
their behavior. For example, if a child exemplifies the virtues of adaptability, optimism,
and resilience, he or she will be able to handle any challenges that may emerge,
especially in these challenging times when disasters routinely hit our society.
Additionally, it teaches our students how to respect others and elders, how to help a
friend or benefactor, how to deal with unknown situations, and how to conduct
themselves morally in modern society. Most importantly, these modern values support
pupils in developing the character traits required to thrive in modern society.
