Different Seasons in the Philippines
I. Introductory Concept

The Philippines is located near the equator. It lies between 5 and 20 degrees
north of the equator. The Philippines is an archipelago made up of islands of different
sizes and features. Some are very small while others are large. There are mountain
ranges, valleys, hills and other landforms found in the different islands in the country.
These geographical and physical conditions of the Philippines affect its climate.
The Philippine climate, warm and humid year-round
is considered to be one of the world’s healthiest tropical
climates. There are two pronounced seasons – dry and wet.
Wet Season. Wet season is characterized by a
pronounced rainy season with thunderstorms. Wet seasons
starts in June and peaks in July to September and then falls

Generally, daytime temperature ranges from 30 to
36 degrees Celsius. The air is hot and humid, which brings
heavy rains and typhoons in the country. During rainy
season, it is advisable to carry an umbrella, especially in the
late afternoon. It is also during rainy season that farmers are
able to plant crops.

Dry Seasons. Dry season is characterized by hot and
cloudless days. Between January and May, the climate is generally
dry with occasional rain showers. During January to February, the
air is cold and dry. The peak of dry season is in April with less rain
showers. The dry season is influenced by seasonal wind and the
northeast monsoon – amihan.

During the dry season, the temperature
at daytime ranges from 25 to 32 degrees
Celsius and 22 degrees at nighttime. During
summer months, from March to June, the
temperature in some places can reach up to
32 degrees Celsius.

It is advisable to wear light-colored and
cotton clothes during warm days to be comfortable.
The summer months is the time for some people to go
on vacation, swimming and visit other islands. It is also
time for other people to dry their crops and other
goods.
