Statement of the Problem
The study aims to compare the light produced by white sugar, brown sugar and salt solutions.
Specifically, the study aims to:
1. Test the conductivity of white sugar, brown sugar and salt solutions in lighting a bulb.
2. Determine the better alternative source of energy between white and brown sugar
solutions and salt solution.
Study the practicality of the usage of sugar and salt in conducting electricity.
Significance of the Study
In our world today, there is a need for alternative sources of energy due to increasing
cost of energy, limited sources of electricity and unavailability of energy in some provinces
in the country. This study may drastically reduce the consumption of nonrenewable energy
resources. It can also greatly benefit the society in terms of environmental preservation and
energy adequacy. In addition, the usage of saltwater and tap water as alternative sources can
be an answer to many of the world’s energy demands, since the resources required are readily
available in the market and in every households, respectively. As a result of this, the less use
of fossil fuels such as crude oils and coal will occur, resulting in a cleaner and more
hospitable environment. This study aims to develop an alternative material in conducting
electricity from brown sugar, white sugar and salt solutions.
1. School
The study will help the students become more knowledgeable of the many uses and
benefits we can get from water—that it can be used to produce electricity. It may be an aid
for them to understand that even a simple experiment can be made to make greater things.
The study may be of great help in developing certain skills such as observation, comparison,
inference, prediction, and the like.
2. Community
The study will help our country’s problem concerning electrical energy. It will
attempt to use the better alternative energy source between white and brown sugar solutions
and salt solution as sources of energy because both are abundant especially in our country,
the Philippines. Currently, Filipinos are burdened because of the high cost of electricity. This
study will provide less harmful and less expensive source of energy.
3. Future Researchers
The study will help future researchers to re-create and improve the experiment by
recognizing the flaws and errors made by previous researchers. For that reason, the
possibility of the experiment being a success will be greater. The discoveries made can be
used by the world to help them benefit more by relying on renewable energy sources.
Scope and Limitations
This study does not include the efficiency of water when doped with materials other
than brown and white sugar and salt. Though the researches aim to compare the light
produced by white sugar, brown sugar and salt solutions, the study does neither includes
measuring the amount of electricity produced nor the amount of brightness generated by the
bulb. There are also other alternatives for the production of energy such as windmills, fossil
fuels cells and biofuel but the researchers do not have the prerogative nor the requirements to
undertake such projects. Instead, the study shall focus on the effectiveness of white and
brown sugar solutions and salt solution as alternative sources of energy.
