Project Synopsis

This project synopsis describes an Xbee based voice controlled wireless smart home system. The system aims to allow those with special needs to control home appliances like lights and fans using voice commands. It will use an Arduino, Xbee modules, microphone and sensors to analyze voice commands and send wireless signals to trigger appliances. The system is expected to remotely control multiple home devices simultaneously through voice recognition and a wireless network established between an Xbee transmitter and receiver. It could potentially be applied for home, commercial or industrial automation based on voice instruction.

Xbee Based Voice Controlled Wireless Smart Home System

1. Title

The aim of the Xbee based Voice Controlled Wireless Smart

Home System is to provide those with special needs with a system
2. Aim that can respond to voice commands and control the on/off status
of electrical devices, such as lamps, fans, television etc. in the
house.
 The Automated Home System could be implemented by
making use of sensors and other appliances connected to
the IoT could be remotely monitored and provides the
services according to the user need.
 By 2020, it is expected that the global smart home market
will reach around 40 billion dollars.
 With the help of IoT smart home devices, it becomes easy
3. Introduction
to reduce energy and costs, all the while savings time.
 This automation system focuses on identifying the voice
and uses low-power XBee, a wireless communication
module.
 The automation system is intended to control all lights and
electrical appliances inside a house or an office using voice
commands.
 The problem is with the elderly or disabled people, who
cannot usually help themselves to move around, and might
4. Problem Statements depend on the external assistance.
 People who live alone might also need a helping hand at
home

 To develop the XBee based voice controlled system which
will control the home appliances by recognizing the voice
of the user.
 To analyze the sensors, modules connected and the
microphone.
5. Objectives  To deploy the system and integrate all the modules which
build a system.
 To evaluate the system by giving voice commands as the
input and to generate the output, then the output can be
compared with the expected output.

Software :
 IDE : Arduino
 Programming language : C,C++
 Operating system : windows 7 & above
 Cloud server : thingspeak
Software and  Voiced based kit
6. Hardware
Requirements Hardware :
 Microphone
 Ardunio uno
 XBee module
 Home appliance

7. Methodology The following steps are performed for deploying this system:
 Step1: Configuration phase
Configure two XBee modules, one as a transmitter and the
other as the receiver, microphone and sensors.

 Step 2: Voice recognition at sending phase:

When a valid user says a particular voice instruction, the
microphone gets it first and then the ATmega328 transmitter
receives it. When the Xbee is enabled, this would send a
particular character to the XBee transmitter.

 Step 3: Voice recognition at receiving phase:
When the XBee is enabled, it will send the corresponding
character to the receiver XBee. The characters sent differ as
per the voice instructions of the user.

 Step 4: Establishing a wireless connection:

When the wireless communication is established successfully,
it will send instructions for ATmega328.

 Step 5: Performing the operation based on the given

voice command:
As a result, the appliances can be turned ON or OFF or
controlled like increasing or decreasing the speed depending
on the control characters received.

We are using voice to control the home devices in a wireless

8. Expected Outcomes system. Similarly we could control the different home devices at
the same time, such as lights, fan.

 Home automation
 Commercial building automation
 Industrial application control
9. Real-time Application
 Smart energy
 Medium range wireless communication

 Indoor/Urban Range: 200ft

 Outdoor RF line-of-sight Range: up to 4000ft
 Transmit Power Output: 6.3mW (8dBm) in Boost
mode,2mW (3dBm) in Normal mode
 RF Data Rate: 250,000 bps
Real-time
 Receiver Sensitivity: -102dBm in Boost mode, -100dBm in
10. Implementation
Normal mode
Possibilities
 Supply Voltage Range: +2.1V to +3.6V
 Operating Current: 33mA (at3.3V, for Normal mode) ,
45mA (at 3.3V,for Boost mode)
 Operating Temperature: -40ºC to 85° C

 Managing all of your home devices form one place

 Flexibility
 Provides maximum security to home
Any other  Increases the efficiency of the energy
11.
Information
The better smart home system could be developed to match
our digital needs and the industry is on a great rising path, and
could be developed by the innovative ideas and by adopting
new technologies.
