What’s New

It’s time to learn a new lesson!

Are you excited?
Come and join us in learning about the
guidelines in restating an informational
text.

Have you ever gotten to the end of a book

or a reading passage and then realized you
don't even remember what you read? It's
easy to get lost in the details of a long piece
of writing and lose track of the main point.

In this lesson, we will explore the ways to

restate an idea and large amounts of
information into a summary of main points.
Let’s start!

8
What is restating?
It is expressing the same idea in different words, but not
necessarily in a shorter form or version.
How?
• Say it in different words.
• Use different sentence structure.
• Don’t start with the original phrasing just try to change it
in a different way.
Study the examples below:
• Original thesis: Bullying has a negative impact to children like
loneliness and low self-esteem.

Restated thesis: Loneliness and low self-esteem are the

negative results of bullying.

• Original thesis: Every child should have a pet to teach love

compassion, and responsibility.

Restated thesis: Love, compassion and responsibility are the

three things a pet can teach to a child.
• Original thesis: The three learning modalities in our school are
modular learning, online learning and blended learning.

Restated thesis: The use of module, online and blended are

the three learning modalities in our school.

Remember, restating or rephrasing an idea and summarizing

the information you have read or listened to is an important skill for
you to learn effectively. Be attentive!

Children like you should be treated fairly and properly
because you are the voice of the future generation. You should be
protected by all means. In this activity, you will learn different
children’s rights mandated by law and you will be tasked to restate
