3. IDENTIFICATION OF HAZARDS
All Portland cement based product, until set, may cause dermatitis due to either their high
alkalinity or hexavalent chromium salts presents in Portland cement. Portland Cement
Contains chromium (VI) and may produce allergic reaction. When mixed with water or
contact of powder with body fluids produces a strongly alkaline solution. This may cause
serious burns and ulceration both to the skin and eyes.
4. FIRSTAIDS
SKIN CONTACT: Remove heavily contamined clothing immediately. Wash the affected area
thoroughly with a mild soap and water, shower if necessary. If irritation continues seek
medical advice.
INHALATION: Remove to fresh air, away from dusty area. If nose or airways become
inflamed seek medical attention
INGESTION: If swallowing has occurred do not induce vomiting. Give person plenty of water
to drink. Seek medical attention
EYE CONTACT: Flush thoroughly with flowing water for 15 minutes to remove all traces. If
symptoms such as irritation or redness persist, seek medical attention. If wet concrete is
splashed in the eye, always treat as above, and get urgent medical attention
5. FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES
Portland cement based products are not flammable and will not facilitate combustion of
other materials.
Exposure hazards Do not release water contaminated with Portland cement into surface
water drains.
6. ACCIDENTIAL PROCEDURES
Personal Precautions
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid breathing dust
Environmental Precautions
Prevent contamination of surface water
Methods for Cleaning
Recover spillage in dry state if possible. Minimize generation of airborne dust.

Technical Protective Measures
No special measures required
Exposure Limits
Workplace Exposure Limits 8 hour TWA (According to EH40/05)
Total inhalable dust: 10mg/m3
Portland Cement : 10mg/m3
Crystalline Silica : 0.1 mg/m3
Respiratory Protection
in dusty environments where dust may be generated from cutting or drilling dry concrete,
use a wet method of cutting and drilling as the preferred method. Where this is not
possible, use a respirator (filter mask)
Dust control measures providing respiratory protection against crystalline silica dust will
also minimise and control any exposure to chromium dust.
Hand and Skin Protection
Minimise contact with wet concrete materials. Never kneel in wet concrete, or allow
extended contact of skin with wet concrete. Where this is not possible, Wear suitable gloves
Eye Protection
Avoid Contact with eyes. Suitable goggles or face protection should be worn

eye can cause serious and rapid corrosive burning, with potential for permanent loss of
vision.
Skin Contact
Irritating, abrasive and drying to the skin.
Inhalation
Inhalation of the powder may cause inflammation of mucous membranes.
Ingestion
he swallowing of small amounts of product or product /water mixtures is unlikely to cause
any significant reaction. Larger doses may result in irritation to the gastro intestinal tract
12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Aquatic Toxicity Rating LC50 aquatic toxicity rating
not determined. The addition of Portland cement based products to water may, however,
cause the pH to rise and therefore may be toxic to aquatic life in some circumstances.
