RESOLUTION NO. 02, SERIES OF 2022
A RESOLUTION ADOPTING REPUBLIC ACT 8172, “AN ACT FOR SALT
IODIZATION NATIONWIDE (ASIN)”, IN THE PROVINCE OF IFUGAO
WHEREAS, the Republic Act No. 8172 most commonly known as ‘An Act for Salt Iodization
Nationwide’ or ASIN law is the national government’s action to combat micronutrient
malnutrition in the country, particularly iodine deficiency disorders, through the cost-effective
preventive measure of salt iodization;
WHEREAS, the ASIN law shall protect and promote the health of the people, maintain an
effective food regulatory system and provide proper nutrition to the entire population especially
women and children;
WHEREAS, it requires all producers manufacturers of food-grade salt to iodize the salt that they
produce, manufacture, import, trade or distribute;
WHEREAS, it requires the Local Government Units (LGUs) through their health officers and
nutritionists/dietitians, or in their absence through the sanitary inspectors, to check and monitor
the quality of food-grade salt being sold in their market in order to ascertain that such salt is
properly iodized;
WHEREAS, it requires the Department of Trade and Industry to regulate and monitor trading of
iodized salt;
WHEREAS, it authorizes the National Nutrition Council, the policy-making and coordinating
body on nutrition, to serve as the advisory board on salt iodization;
NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of MR. MARCELO B. LIHGAWON, PNC-TWG, Philippine
Information Agency, duly seconded and carried by the members present, be it …
RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, in consideration of the foregoing, we the
members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee as the counterpart body of the National Nutrition
Council at the provincial level do hereby approve and adopt the Republic Act 8172 An Act For
Salt Iodization Nationwide (ASIN) for the Province of Ifugao;
RESOLVED FURTHER, for the Provincial Health Office-Nutrition Section to ensure that the
resolution is disseminated as widely as possible to the municipalities and barangays for
monitoring;
RESOLVED FURTHER, for the implementing agency to ensure that the benefits and rationale
of the use of iodized salt shall be adequately disseminated and promoted through organized,
systematic and nationwide information campaign and will seek cooperation from the PIA to
assist in public information dissemination;
RESOLVED FURTHER, to forward this resolution to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for
information, reference and basis of approval or further action;
RESOLVED FINALLY, for the Provincial Health Office- Nutrition Section to monitor and to
ensure the full implementation of this resolution.
