03 - RA23503EN162GLA0 - SRAN On Baseband Dimensioning

The document discusses baseband dimensioning for shared radio access network (SRAN) deployments. With SRAN, a single common baseband unit or system module can support multiple radio access technologies (RATs), unlike previous implementations where separate baseband cards were required for each RAT. The Nokia Flexi Multiradio 10 system module allows up to three RATs to share baseband processing capabilities, improving resource utilization over dedicated baseband architectures. Proper dimensioning of the shared baseband resources is required to support the capacity needs of each RAT.

There are three LTE baseband SW allocation types, depending on LTE radio configuration (supported
bandwidth / # cells / features):
• Reduced Cell Set (RCS)

• Extended Cell Set (ECS)
Each configuration affects BB allocation (-> amount of FSMF/FBBC cards)

SRAN baseband
SBTS baseband resources sharing - Summary

• System Module sharing functionality allows to share single BTS baseband resources between different
RATs (i.e. GSM / WCDMA / LTE).

• SBTS supports also single RAT scenarios.

• RAT baseband dimensioning rules remain unchanged as such.

• SBTS supported configuration can be found in the following excel file describing SBTS profiles.
