Rhythmic games – cheat sheet

Throwing a ball in the air and getting people to follow it's rhythm. Then asking people to try
and copy the movement of when it's in the air and what that sounds. You can do this for all
parts of when the ball is in the air bouncing etc. Ask for an adjective to describe it, use the
education language.

Start by practicing a stead beat walking, one at a time implement a new body percussion
rhythm. The keep the rhythm and ask people to improve a rhythm for 2 bars. Get people to
make up their rhythm for everyone to follow. Then learn them, for 4 bars go around and
play each other’s made up rhythm.

Tempo master –
An individual will be the tempo master and in charge of creating the tempo for everyone
else to follow along to. The individual will use non-verbal communication to indicate when
to stop, play louder, softer etc.

Stomping a bit harder to wake up Tasmania. Start with stomping at a steady beat – walking,
after a while ask to double the tempo, then double again, and again, then stop. Ask how
that felt. Then go back to the steady beat and reverse it, half the tempo, and again, and
again and stop.

Couple of versions, for complex they will go around the room and say pass the beat around
the room then when it lands on the person to start again they tap their shoulders, if they
stuff it up then they are out. Easier option, create a tempo and pass the beat around the
room, can get faster, slower etc. Can also use words/sounds.

Every has their head down, then create a rhythm and when you stop the rhythm or music
everyone has to look up and if you and another person are looking at each other you're out.

Start by tapping the knees 7 times do this twice, then add a new body percussion (chose
someone) or next is knees + clap go to seven, next is knee + clap + snap fingers, next is
knees + cross over hands knees + knees + clap + snap fingers + clap hands + knees. Next and
last knee + 2x claps + 2x shoulder taps + 2x hip taps.

With guitar or not get someone to tell everyone where to place or what to do next. Eg, put
your hands on your nose (play guitar, then stop) next get the next person to decide.

In the 1=2 & 2=1, when you hit the instrument once they're going to play twice and vice versa. In the
1,2,3,4, drum play when I say one you hit once in a measure etc.

Create a phrase that makes rhythmic sense e.g. Let's all play cause it's fun. Tap the syllables of the words
