MODULE 5: WEEK 6

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

1. Explain the effects of consumption and production patterns on climate

change (HUMSS_MCT12-Ih-i-2)
2. Discuss personal contributions that can actually solve the problem of
climate change (HUMSS_MCT12-Ih-i-3)
3. Make a stand on how the consequences of one’s action affect the lives
of others and the environment (HUMSS_MCT12-Ih-i-4)
Consequences of Personal and Local Action to Global
and Planetary Climate Change

Introduction:
Our planet is experiencing accelerated climate changed caused by certain
human activities. These effects are being felt globally and are predicted to become
intense having severe consequences in all every country. Climate change affects
almost all regions of the globe and it will have serious consequences in biodiversity,
human health, economy, and environment. Our everyday living, the consumption
and production of resources that fuel our society greatly affect our planet.
To stop climate change from getting worse, we must take actions in our own
everyday living and our society must adapt mechanisms to limit the damage of
climate change in the future. Thus, this lesson focuses on explaining, discussing
and making a stand on helping and mitigating climate change.

At the end of the module, you should be able to:

1. Explain the effects of consumption and production patterns on

climate change
2. Discuss personal contributions that can actually solve the problem of
climate change
3. Make a stand on how the consequences of one’s action affect the lives
of others and the environment

Pre Test
Direction: Read each item carefully and use your notebook to write your answers.
Choose your answer on the choices provided inside the box.
Production environment
Consumption human activities
Greenhouse effect climate change

1. It is the method of turning raw materials or inputs into finished goods or

products in a manufacturing process.
2. It is the sum of all surroundings of a living organism, including natural
forces and other living things, which provide conditions for development and
growth as well as of danger and damage.
3. The process in which the substance of a thing is completely destroyed, used
up, or incorporated or transformed into something else.
4. Refers to significant changes in global temperature, precipitation, wind
patterns and other measures of climate that occur over several decades or
longer.
5. It is a process that occurs when gases in Earth’s atmosphere trap the sun’s
heat. This process makes Earth much warmer than it would be without an
atmosphere. It is one of the things that makes Earth a comfortable place to
live.

Task 1- Let’s Recall

1. Make a list of the disasters that have happened in the world in the past ten
years.
2. Illustrate inside the box the devastation you can recall.
Task 2:
Direction: Answer the following questions.

1. What is climate change?

2. List at least three of your activities that you think can contribute to
climate change.

3. What will you do to reduce its impact to our climate?

Task 3: Saving Mother Earth

In your own little way, how can you help mitigate or lessen the effects of climate
change?

Climate Change
(https://ec.europa.eu/clima/)

Climate change is already happening: temperatures are rising, drought and

wild fires are starting to occur more frequently, rainfall patterns are shifting,
glaciers and snow are melting and the global mean sea level is rising. To mitigate
climate change, we must reduce or prevent the emissions linked to human
activities.

Climate change concerns all of us, and everyone can take action for the
climate.

Our planet is experiencing significant and accelerated climate

change caused by greenhouse gases emitted by human activities.

The effects are being felt on all continents and are predicted to become more
and more intense, with severe consequences for our economies and societies.

To stop climate change from getting worse, we must take action to cut
greenhouse gas emissions significantly and adapt to the changes happening now
and in the future to limit the damage.

Task 4:
Production Impact or consequence Ways to reduce its impact
to climate change and help solve climate
change
1. Production of plastics,
rubbers and styrofoams
2. Conversion of forest to
industrial sites
3. Production of beef and
other dairy products

Consumption Impact or consequence Ways to reduce its impact

to climate change and help solve climate
change
1. Use of plastics, rubbers
and styrofoams
2. Using gasoline and
burning of fuel
3. Consumption of beef
and dairy products

Task 5:
Make a poster or slogan and have a brief explanation about your stand on
environmental conservation and climate.

Explanation: ______________________________________________________

realization on this matter. Make a commitment to make this world a better place to
live in.
