Understanding Students’ All-round Development Needs &
Teachers’ Role as Caring Cultivators of All-round Growth

Learning Objectives
Student-teachers should be able to:
1. identify students’ all-round development needs;
2. explain how you can support students’ all-round development;
3. plan for your role as a caring cultivator of all-round growth for your students.

Activity 1: Understanding students’ all-round development needs


The table below shows some key areas of development teachers need to help students with, in
addition to their academic learning (see the T-standard+ framework):

1. For each area, write down one example of what your students need to do to show that they
have made an achievement in this area of development. It can be something in relation to
their behavior in your subject classroom or in their school life in general. (Some of the
21st century skills you worked on in Session 4 can be relevant.)

2. Share your examples with your group members / class to collect more examples.

Activity 2: Supporting students’ all-round development


Based on your understanding of students’ all-round development needs from the examples you
worked out in Activity 1,
1. plan one way/thing you can do for each area during BPII / FES to help students with their
development in each area; you can consider the following aspects of your interaction with
students:
a. during subject teaching: the topics and learning objectives; the choice of content; the
learning activities; the grouping of students; the assignments etc.;
b. class management routines;
c. during recess, lunch break, afterschool activities;
d. any other innovative ways you can think of.

to the T-standard+ framework),

Revise the 5 stages of the problem-solving approach you learnt in the Portfolio I Course
