Purpose and Audience: You are part of the social justice committee at your high school. Your
committee has been asked by the school administration to develop a report to determine what
issue our school should raise awareness of and act on through using the Circle of Faith in Action
model (awareness, analysis, action). Your topic should be Canadian or have a Canadian
connection.

A.Proposal
a) What questions do you have about your issue?
b) What is your initial ethical position regarding this issue?
c) What is the Catholic position regarding this issue?
d) List some Canadian organizations that support the Catholic position for this issue.
B. Initial Research
Gather 3 sources. on your topic You will need to collect and make notes on a minimum of three
sources about your topic. They may include internet sources, books, movies, magazines, or
newspapers. Use the following format for each of your three sources:

RESEARCH REPORT
If you have chosen a research report, your Final Product will look like this:
It can have headings if you wish. Approximate length 6-10 pages
SEE:
1. Research Question - What question are you asking in regards to your issue?
2. What human rights are involved? (Refer to U.N. Declaration of Human Rights)
JUDGE:
1. Why or how is the issue important?
2. Research:
a. Facts and truths - (Be detailed - you are the expert)
b. Law - (refer to specific laws that relate to your topic)
c. Church Teachings, Catechism and/or Gospel Values - (refer to the Vatican
website, your textbook and/or specific bible quotations). Explain how this fits into
your issue.
d. Scripture passage to support your research. Explain how this fits into your issue.

ACT:
1. How does our faith call us to respond to this issue and explain why the Church feels that
this is the best option. (Explain thoroughly) - back up your ideas with academic sources
and examples.
2. What organization should your high school partner with and why (explain how the
organization programs/services follow CSTs/Church teaching). Come up with a practical
plan outlining how we can support this organization at your school.
CONSEQUENCES:
1. How does your action outlined above encourage and develop the Beatitudes and Catholic
Social Teachings in our community? Specify 1 Beatitude and 1 Catholic Social Teaching
when responding to this question.
FORMAT
Your introduction (SEE) must include your issue, and an overview of your key points about your
topic. The body of your essay must include the aspects of JUDGE and ACT. The
CONSEQUENCES from the steps in moral analysis will be the conclusion of your essay.
WORK CITED PAGE
You must include a proper Works Cited page. A minimum of five sources are needed. Make
sure to use primarily journals/articles to do your research (total of 5 sources - min. 3
journals/reports, min. one website, min. one in depth magazine article and or book). Wikipedia
is not an acceptable source. Use websites like citethisforme.com or Easybib to source your
work.
Work cited should be alpha order and fully filled in

In Text citations must be used within your text. Format is (lastname, year) or (Organization,
year)

TED Talk With Annotated Works Cited - approx. 5 minute in length
If you have chosen to complete a TED Talk and Annotated Works Cited, you are asked to submit
the following:

AN ANNOTATED WORKS CITED of all of your sources.
What is an annotated works cited? An annotated works cited is a list of citations (or
references) for books, articles, documents, etc: all the sources used for your research, with an
accompanying paragraph that describes, explains and/or evaluates each entry in terms of quality,
authority and relevance.
What is included in the summary part of an annotated works cited?
Your summary should include the following elements:
(1) a brief summary of its content, and how this source is answering the research question,
clarifying your understanding of the research, and/or reviewing the literature of the research, etc.
(2) a sentence at the end of the summary that explains its value to the student.
