Electrical Engineering and Automation

CULTIVATION OBJECTIVES
This specialty provides students with all-round education including morality, intelligence, physical
health and art with emphasis on the fundamental theories and skills of electrical engineering, automation,
electronic and information technology. It is aimed to cultivate the excellent talents in the areas of
electrical engineering, automation, electronics and computer engineering with strong ability to carry out
scientific research, the engineering design and development, the systematic operation and economic
management. Students should also develop strong sense of social responsibility with international vision,
competence and innovation.
MAIN AND RELATED DISCIPLINES
Main discipline: Electrical Engineering
Related disciplines: Control Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Electronic
Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering
MAIN COURSES
Circuits, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Signals and Systems, Electromagnetic Field and

CHIEF ASPECTS OF PRACTICAL TEACHING
Metalworking Practice, Electrical Engineering Practice, Professional Practice, Project Design,
Graduation Project (thesis), Military Training
EDUCATION SYSTEM AND ACADEMIC DGREE
4 years with Degree Bachelor of Engineering
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The minimum credit requirement is 170 (within class) plus 8 (extracurricular), among which
compulsory courses and optional courses account for 120 and 16 respectively, and comprehensive
practical curriculum and extracurricular practice account for 34 and 8 respectively. The students should
pass the exams of military training, CET -4 and the test of National Standard for College Students’
Physique Health before graduation.
Course Requirements
1. Introduction to Courses in different modules
(1) 12 credits for General Course of Basic Curriculum ( 6 credits for core courses of Basic
Curriculum and 6 credits for others)
(2) 16 credits for the courses of Ideological and Political Education & National Defense Education
(3) 15 credits for English, Physical Education and Computer Technology; Freshman should take part
in computer competence examination. Those whose scores are less than 70 are required to select
fundamentals of computers which can substitute one core course of Basic Curriculum.
(4) 37.5 credits for Basic Curriculum of Each Discipline (including 24.5 credits of mathematics and
engineering mathematics as well as 13 credits of physics and chemistry)
(5) 45 credits for Basic Curriculum of Each Specialty. After students have chosen their sub major
from the following 6 majors, the requirements of different majors are as follows:
Major of Electric Machinery: Principle of Microcomputer and Interface Technique, Power
Engineering,Engineering Mechanics and Fundamentals of Mechanical Design,
Major of Electrical Apparatus: Principle of Microcomputer and Interface Technique, Power
Engineering, Conspectus of Electric Materials and Power Equipment, Basis of Mechanical Engineering
Major of Industrial Automation: Principle of Microcomputer and Interface Technique, Modern
Measurement Technology, Power Engineering, Basis of Mechanical Engineering
Major of High Voltage, Modern Measurement Technology, Basis of Mechanical Engineering,
Conspectus of Electric Materials and Power Equipment,
Major of Insulation Technology: Conspectus of Electric Materials and Power Equipment, Power
Engineering, Basis of Mechanical Engineering, Conspectus of Electric Materials and Power Equipment,
Major of Power Systems: Modern Measurement Technology, Principle of Microcomputer and
Interface Technique, Basis of Mechanical Engineering, Conspectus of Electric Materials and Power
Equipment,
(6) 20 credits for specialized courses. There are 6 majors in this specialty and there are six courses in
each major. Students are required to finish 8 to 11.5 credits in each major and 8.5 to 12 credits in all
majors.
(7) Students are required to select two Bilingual courses.
2. Requirement of Comprehensive Practices
(1) Metalworking Practice and Electrical Engineering Practice
Students are required to practice in the engineering lab and enhance understanding about mechanical
and electronics and improve practical operation skills. Students are encouraged to participate during
sophomore year.
(2) Project Design
In seventh semester, there are seven courses of project design for students and one to two courses in
each major. In these courses, students are asked to participate in full process of project design through
voluntary learning and practices by students as well as organization and guide by teachers.
(3) Professional practice
There are eight weeks of professional practice for students with four weeks in summer during
sophomore years and senior years respectively. Students can learn more about practical production related
to their majors through professional practice. During sophomore year, distributive practices are
encouraged and students are required to hand in the practice notes, personal reports and reports from
related corporations. These documents will be delivered to teachers for judgment and grading. During
senior year, comprehensive practices are preferred. After practices, students are required to hand in the
notes and reports and graded by the teachers who lead them.
(4) Graduation Project (thesis) From the eighth semester, students are required to complete
graduation thesis under supervision of related professors and take part in thesis defense in late June.
3 Suggested lists for selecting Courses
Core courses of Basic Curriculum: select one core course from European Culture and Development,
Fundamentals of Social Sciences, Energy and Environment respectively
4 Requirement of 8 credits of extracurricular and Execution Method
During summer vacations of junior and sophomore years, students are required to do social practices.
Students can decide the theme of the activity either by themselves or by group. Students should hand in
the reports after two weeks in the next semester and judged by the department. Student can get 4 credits of
extracurricular credits if they are qualified.
Other methods of extracurricular credits are based on the suggestion of students Administration.
