Republic of the Philippines

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao

Province of Lanao del Sur
MUNICIPALITY OF SAGUIARAN
BARANGAY SUNGGOD
OFFICE OF THE PUNONG BARANGAY

Message of the Punong Barangay

Greetings of Peace!

Over a year ago when a lawless group of individuals who seek to gain control of the
Islamic City of Marawi led thousands of its inhabitants to vacate their sanctuaries and found
their temporary shelters in the nearby municipalities. Saguiaran, being the nearest exit point
of Marawi City and entry point to Iligan City, had welcomed more than a thousand of these
displaced individuals into its Evacuation Centers while some were welcomed by their
relatives from 30 barangays including Barangay Sunggod.

The Marawi Siege captured the attention of the Philippine Government and other
foreign agencies and institutions. Numerous aids from both internal and external sources
fulfilled the needs of the displaced individuals. Among these is the USAID-Philippines (U.S.
Agency for International Development - Philippines).

With their aim of promoting good governance and improving peace and stability by
strengthening the capacity, legitimacy, transparency, and accountability of local government,
and increasing the involvement of citizens in governance through civic education, civil society
strengthening, and the promotion of participatory mechanism, USAID Philippines came up
with a project called ENGAGE (Enhancing Governance, Accountability, and Engagement)
which assists on six conflict-affected areas in Mindanao and further targeted 11 host
barangays in Saguiaran with high numbers of IDPs present in their community.

MOSEP (Mindanao Organization for Social and Economic Progress, Inc.), a non-
governmental organization was among the 48 CSO supported by ENGAGE. It is through the
guidance of MOSEP which facilitated the conduct of different community-related activities
and participatory planning on all sectors of the community that the BLGU of Barangay
Sunggod and its constituents gained knowledge on establishing good governance and
maintaining harmonious relationship between the BLGU and the community.

In behalf of the good people of Barangay Sunggod, I am extending our heartfelt

gratitude on this very rare opportunity to be chosen as one of the recipients of ENGAGE and
MOSEP. Rest assured that the knowledge you have shared with us will not only be stored in
our minds but will serve as guiding principles in our journey towards achieving the
betterment of Barangay Sunggod. You have touched our lives in a way no one else can.
Again, thank you!

HON. ROHAYMAH E. H.NOR-TANGGO
