How much training do I need?

Training needs will vary, depending on the user, the application, and the machine types. The Fluke 810
Vibration Tester is a revolutionary new approach to vibration testing and even experienced vibration experts
need some training in order to understand its proper use. Fluke supports users with a comprehensive training
program for any skill and experience level—from the basics all the way to proactive maintenance program
start-up. It also provides multiple training schedules that you select to help achieve program success. At a
minimum, we recommend that all users take the self-paced training program (5 to 8 hours) and refer to the
other training materials (guides and videos) as needed, to answer questions and hone your skills. First learn
the vibration principles, then basic training, then practice on exercises, then setup your actual machines. The
training objectives and new key terms help the novice quickly know what they need to learn.

Steps to start a successful program with the 810:
Follow example schedule below for a typical program start-up:
• Start with a review of 810 guided training – see Session 1 in Month 1: (like what was given during the onsite training)
• Most programs struggle because users try to start too big or with the most complex machines in the plant.
• Successful customers have learned to start small and grow – start simple and then move to more complex machines when
ready. Simple machines are direct drive or coupled machines while complex machines are belt or gear driven.
• New users may find that the few complex machines are best done by the experts → cover the 90% standard machine in-house
and outsource the complex 10% to experts (contact Fluke Reliability)
• Not all training is done during the onsite class. As you start with your first 10-20 machines, go through the guided, self-paced
