NARRATIVE
A. Philippine National Police
I will call my time in PNP as "life
changing." My experience here gave me
a new look on the perspective of life
especially now that I am growing up and
I am nearing to become an adult. A lot of
them, the officers or the police didn't just
take the criminology course instead, they
have other degrees like nursing. In short,
being a police is one of my dream now. If
all things will go right in the future, I will grab the opportunity to become one. I will truly
remember my time in PNP. This work immersion gave me lots of new knowledge and life
learnings. Thank you PNP, saludo!
B. Bureau of Fire Protection
“A Great Learning Experience.”
This is what I can describe in my time here
in BFP. Seeing how they do their work,
having the chance and opportunity to work
for them and being able to experience
what they do is something that we all
could’ve asked for. Learning with people
who’s willing to help you to grow and
learn is another traits for the BFP. All the
fire officers were so nice and fun to work
for. It is a tiring 5 days of my life, but at the end of the day I will just realize that all I did
here is worth it. I’ll truly miss being in the BFP, the ambiance of it, all the corners of the
station and most importantly, the kitchen upstairs. I spend most of my time working there.
So, Bureau of Fire Protection Camiling, thank you for the warm welcome and the
knowledge and wisdom that you all gave me. I will truly remember you all, and I am surely
gonna miss my time running errands, haha. This is an incredible way to finish my high
school journey, so thank you. Work Immersion. Good morning ma’am/sir! Work
Immersion, Joshua Ray Esquivel, from CSHI Batch 3, request permission to thank you all
and finally say good bye!! Salute!!
IV. WORK IMMERSION HIGHLIGHTS
A. Philippine National Police
Day 1
Woah! First day at the job, very nervous yet excited for the new opportunity! I was assigned
as a leader! I was in charge in the lobby and the funny part, the officer appointed in the
desk treated me with snacks! “Ansarap talaga kapag libre!”
Day 2
“Stop, checkpoint to!” The hot weather can’t stop these hardworking officers to do their
job on the checkpoint. We joined them and I observed a lot of things on the side of the road.
Truly an awesome experience. And also, first time riding in the police mobile!! And also,
I was a videographer for their simulation activity! “Astig!’”
Day 3
Office work, aircon finally! For the first time since being here, I was assigned in the
Intelligence section, where there’s aircon! Didn’t do much today, but sitting for hours in
the cold room and observing the undercover agents or officers do their work or cases is
pretty cool!
Day 4
I was scolded, but I took it as a motivation to do better nextime. But hey, it was a fun day
4, I was at the lobby again with kind Ma’am Gragasin. This is the day "napagalitan ako"
but still, a great experience!
Day 5
The last day in PNP, we did handcuffing techniques and we learned how to disassemble
and assemble a gun. It was a productive day, although I messed up a little bit as I failed to
disassemble on my first try. But later on, I mastered it pretty quickly and hey, I did it! Thank
you PNP for the 5 days of kindness, professionalism and lessons. I'll truly cherish it all,
and I will never forget the experience that you all gave me. "HARAP SA LIKOD.... NA!
TIWALAG!
B. Bureau of Fire Protection
Day 1
BFP!!! A new chapter begins. Only the first day but it’s already a lot of work! Errands here
doing chores there and so on and so forth. Still, great first day, very productive. Lots of
work, and there’s an upcoming quiz!
Day 2
A very productive day! Cleaned the firetruck and butcher 3 chickens for their lunch! After
that, we did some leg exercises before we go home. It’s tiring and really painful but for me,
I embrace the pain!
Day 3
Day 3 in the books! We sang a song for the officers early in the morning, and as usual we
followed what we are told to and then there is sir Costales. He told us about the 3 secrets
on how to become successful in the future! He is very kind and soft spoken, so thank you
sir!
Day 4
The end is near! It’s fourth day in BFP. As usual, we did our morning form and commands
and after we did the hose throwing led by sir Jhordan Palaganas. It was fun and exciting,
we learned a lot and the same time we enjoyed our activity so much. Thank you sir Jhordan,
much appreciated!
Day 5
The end is here. The last day in BFP. We did fire fighting for our last activity. And as a
form of gratitude, all of us students gathered some money to buy food for the fire officers.
I know I’ve been here for only 5 days, but my time here very worth it and very memorable.
I’ll truly miss all of the corners of this station, from the front all the way to second floor.
So to all fire officers, thank you all. This is Esquivel, team leader of batch 3, signing off!
V. WEEKLY DIARY
A. Philippine National Police
DAY 1
"FIRST DAY AT THE JOB"
D-Day. This is the first day of me with a job. New
environment, new people and most importantly new
learnings and experiences. Likewise, I was very nervous.
I don't if I will make a good impression, but glad I did,
PNP is fun.
I was to task to become a leader, or also called "O1." I am
responsible for commanding, directing and leading my
classmates on any work given to us by the officers. I
learned to report and the proper stances while standing on
a formation.
Moreover, I was in charged in the lobby area. This is
where the entrance of the station is and where the
people come. I was task to greet them nicely and ask
what can I do for them. It was great and fun first day.
As usual, being a first time can be really sloppy. But
hey, we can always adapt to any environment once we
experience it often. So, this is day one in the books.
"HARAP SA LIKOD, NA!..... TIWALAG!"
DAY 2
STOP! CHECKPOINT LANG PO!
Stop! Checkpoint! Day two is in. I was deployed to join the
checkpoint. It was indeed an incredible experience. Actually, I
found it very funny. There are many drivers who don't have helmet
turn back their ways because they don't want to get caught.(In
short, tumatakas at nag sho shortcut sa mga iskinita!)
One time, one vehicle passes by us and the driver didn't even noticed
the police whistled. The officer can't do anything anymore and I
couldn't help myself but laugh in the situation. I realized that we
shouldn't be scared when there's police or there's a checkpoint. They
won't harm or do anything bad to us. Their job is to ensure the safety
of the drivers especially the ones with no helmet or proper licenses.
Mainit, pero worth it. While being on the side of the road, I had a bit of
chitchat with the Chief that we are with. We just talked about what's the
next step on being a police, about life and also lovelife. She was very
kind and yet powerful, I admire her enthusiastic appeal and her strong
presence. Overall, this day is by far yet the best. "The best way to learn
is to experience it yourself"
DAY 3
"I WANT TO BE LIKE HIM"
Early in the morning, 6:23 AM, I was the first student to
came early to PNP. And the moment I stepped on the third floor,
I saw this tall and masculine officer laying down on his folding
bed. I feel like he just woke up, and he's always sleeping in the
station. Of course for the sign of respect, I greeted him good
morning, and he responded "ang aga mo ah!" After that he went
up, took a shower on the station as well and got ready to work.
He is funny but yet really really, "astig!"
So day 3, not much work today, I was assigned in the Intelligence section, but I barely did
anything than sitting for hours. But hey, it's still a good thing as there's an aircon on the
room and it's very, very soothing and refreshing especially during this hot summer. Fast
forward, we are on our way to go home, but out of nowhere, we were told to do exercises,
mainly squats before we go out. We're curious who's the officer that ordered it. Then, he
came out of the room and I was shocked. He was the one that I saw earlier in the morning,
and his name is John Paulo Honrada, and he is a Police Corporal, PRO3.
After the exercise, he did a bit of talk to us. He said, wala
And after that, I
became a fan of him. He changed my perception of
wanting to become a police on day. I want to try it, very
soon. Overall, sir Honrada is very influential, straightforward and most importantly super
cool. That is why, "I want to be like him."
DAY 4
"TAKE IT AS A LESSON TO IMPROVE"
Day four, I was assigned again in the lobby. It was
a typical day again at PNP Camiling. Citizens around the
town coming to the station with their different motives.
There are once because of complains, accidents, cases or
those who just going to get police clearance, like us before.
One time, Ma'am Gragasin, the officer in charge in the
lobby ordered me to call an officer upstairs because there's
a parcel waiting. But one problem is, I didn't know who it
is, and I kinda messed up not going to the room she's in. I told her she's not upstairs. So
Ma'am Gragasin went up herself to check and there's
the officer that I've been looking for. I was ashamed of
myself because it was the first time of me having a
mistake like that in the PNP.
Ma'am didn't get mad, she just told me to memorize all
the names of the Chiefs, the officers and etc in order
for me to get it right next time. When we made a
mistake, take it as a motivation to do better next time. So in the end, I familiarize myself
on the names of the officers in the station
DAY 5
“THANK YOU, PNP CAMILING”
The last day in PNP, a bit of excitement and sad at the
same time. Throughout the day, we did two activities. That is
handcuffing techniques and disassemble/assemble of firearms. It
was great day, probably the most productive day out of all as we
learn lots of things from different types of handcuffing
techniques, how to handcuff a suspect, and to disassemble and
assemble guns and how to properly execute it.
After the activities were done, it's time for us to wrap it up.
Before we go home, we did the usual form and command. Then,
we sincerely expressed gratitude to the officers on their kindness
towards us, especially Ma'am Castillo, who's responsible to look
over us. I can't thank all of them
enough for the great experience they
gave me. It was such an amazing 5 days of my life.
Then, before we go home, there's the Head Chief, Perfecto F. De
Mayo Jr., did talk to us a bit, for the first time! He just said, being
a police doesn't require to be so brain-smart, it all needs one
thing, and that is to smile. "Pakikisama" is the most important
thing for them. And he also added, If you don't enjoy what you do, you're not doing it right.
If you have job or something working on, don't whine or complain about it, enjoy every bit
of it and embrace it, fully commit to it.
So to all PNP officers, thank you. No words can express my
gratitude towards you all. And last but not the least, let me do
my report, one last time; "Joshua Esquivel, Work Immersion -
CSHI, Total Strength 17, Actual Present 17, All Counted
Ma'am/Sir!...... Harap sa likod... na!...... Tiwalag!"
B. Bureau of Fire Protection
DAY 1
“IDOL!”
Day 6, but officially day 1 in the BFP or Bureau of Fire
Protection. A new experience again. I felt so nervous because I was
again the leader, not just command leader but for the whole week. This
day was very productive. I was doing errands here and there, washing
dishes, commanding my fellow teammates and
many more.
Additionally, there’s sir Jhordan Palaganas. Before going to BFP, I
was told that he is the strict type of guy. But just in my first day, I
think of it as the opposite. He is actually funny and have a high
sense of humor. He jokes around, even during the discussions. He
taught us the parts of PPEs, fire extinguisher, water hose, and how
to perform CPR step by step.
If you’re really committed on learning something, you got to have a
teacher or someone who’s great at teaching, and of that people is sir
Jhordan Palaganas. I have another idol, and that is him. He’s fun to
work for, and he is very amazing. Salute sayo sir Jhordan!
DAY 2
“A PRODUCTIVE DAY”
Chores Work! Early in the morning, us boys were tasked to
clean the fire truck, from the driver’s seat all the way to the water tank
in the back. It was so tiring but yet very productive start for the day.
After that, we butcher 3 chickens for their
lunch today! Actually, it’s my very first time
doing it, and it is an awesome experience!
They cooked adobo and guess what, they made us eat lunch with
them! They’re all very kind specially that one lady fire officer that
I couldn’t remember anymore. She told me I resembles her
younger brother a lot who died. While we eat, she gave us a
mango. She was very caring and very accommodating to work to.
So, shout out ma’am!
Overall, day 2 was a very productive day. I started to adapt to this
new environment, and starting to realize that firemen aren’t just
fighting fire, it’s much more complicated than that. Respect to all
fire officers!!!!
DAY 3
“3 SECRETS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL BY SIR COSTALES”
Day 3 in the BFP. First things first, they made us
sing some songs for them led by Grace Lhyn who’s the
one playing guitar. Then there is sir Mark Lee. Base on
his looks, he’s not that type of a person who likes music.
But surprisingly, he’s so good at playing guitar and he
sings so well. Idol!
Didn’t do much for the entire morning. During noon, 3 of
us boys, Dan Kenneth and Temoty are the only boys in
our batch so we mostly do all the hard labors in the
station. So during the afternoon, we are tasked to
clean upstairs and wash the dishes. While doing the
work they gave us, there’s a random officer who
walks in the kitchen and made us form.
That is sir Costales, the oldest fire officer in the
Camiling Fire Station. He gave us 3 secrets to
become a successful person one day. First one is to
always pray to God, second is to have discipline and
the third and last one is to respect our parents or
people who raised us. It may simple, but the way he
said it left an inspiring feeling to us. He is a very
soft spoken, and he wished us good luck on our next
journey. He’s so kind, yet so influential one.
It may hard right now, but I just need to accept the
fact that being an adult is already near. Now that I
have the chance to surround myself with people
who are in profession, this truly boost my
experience and knowledge in the outside world. So
thank you, sir Costales!!!
DAY 4
“NO MAN IS AN ISLAND”
The end is near! It’s day 4 in the BFP. We are so
excited for the hose throwing activity. As usual, we did our
morning and noon form and command. Then in thr
afternoon, we performed the hose throwing activity lead bg
sir Jhordan Palaganas. We had so much fun, we were
divided into groups and whoever the team that will lose
each round will have a punishment and this is to perform
an exercise.
But, at the end of the day, win or lose, teamwork will make
the dream work. Me and my group mates won some rounds
and we did a pretty great job. My realization is that all of us
should work collectively and continue to strive as one. Same
goes in life, we’re not going survive alone. Remember, “No
man is an island.”
DAY 5
“THANK YOU, BFP CAMILING”
The end is here, the final day in the BFP Camiling.
Right before I stepped in the station for the first time today, I
remembered all the things that we did in our time here. I
realized this is the final day that I will be here, together with
my fellow students. As a form of gratitude, we gathered
contribution to buy some goods to cook for lunch as a way for
us to thank all of the officers for looking out for us for five
days.
We treated them lunch, because they treated
us with care and so much knowledge for 1
week. We also performed fire fighting for our
last activity.
So, thank you, BFP Camiling. From the
bottom of m heart, my time here will always
be remembered and I will never forget all the
experiences and lessons that it taught me. I’ll
truly miss you all, especially those officers
who were so kind to me. I guess see you all
around, thank you again. Joshua Ray Esquivel, from Work Immersion CSHI Batch 3,
request permission to say good bye, tiwalag!!!
VI. GENERALIZATION
A. Philippine National Police (PNP)
On my time here on PNP, I realized a
lot. But the one thing that really left the cannot
forget is that being a police is not just about
holding a gun and catch criminals, it’s much
more complicated and harder than that. There’s
the intel, investigation, supply and so on and
so forth. Basically, it is a hard job, and I find it
very amazing to see.
B. Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)
Same goes in the BFP. Their job is only
to fight or turn down fire, it’s much more than
that. They are responsible for any business
transactions permit from simple sari sari store
to bigger establishments around Camiling.
And what’s most shocking for me, is there’s a
lot of paper works to do. So, we should not
underestimate the job of being a firemen.
