PERFORMANCE TASK
GOAL To create a structural design involving conic sections.
ROLE & You are an architect required to present your design to
AUDIENCE your manager.
SITUATION You are working in a company providing both structural
design services to clients. Your manager required each
architect working in the company to submit structural
design involving conic sections. Your boss intends to
showcase the best designs in the 2024 Design Innovations
Fair at the World Trade Center.
PRODUCT Hand-drawn artwork or structural design involving conic
sections
PERFORMANCE TASK
STANDARDS 1. Your structural design must include at least 3 conic sections.
You may include multiple figures of conic sections but make
sure that 3 of the 4 types of conic sections (circle, parabola,
ellipse and/or hyperbola) are present.
2. You are free to incorporate any other shapes and designs. Be
creative.
3. Your structural design should be placed in a 1/4 illustration
board and should be colored.
4. Rectangular coordinates should be drawn to enable the
audience to visualize the actual size of the artwork/structure.
Therefore, your grid must be drawn to scale and label them
properly. Label the x and y axes to show the origin (0,0). Do not
label the unit of the grid so your work won’t get clogged.
Indicate in the illustration board the scale used (ex., 1 unit
meter)
PERFORMANCE TASK
STANDARDS 5. Label the conic sections. Indicate only the following:
Circle: C(h,k)
Parabola: V(h,k)
Ellipse: C(h,k)
Hyperbola: C(h,k)
6. In a legal size (long) bond paper, write (typewritten or
handwritten) the following:
a. Title of your design. Be creative.
b. Brief description of your concept/design
c. Standard equation of the conic sections corresponding to your
label in #5 above.
d. Write your name (surname, first name, middle initial), subject
and teacher
e. Paste the bond paper at the back of the illustration board.
Criteria for Evaluation
Points
• Accuracy of Mathematical Equation
and Label 20
• Uniqueness and Creativity of the
