MAB-Moment required for rotation
A 1 (Unit rotation)
Stiffness factor:- It is the moment required to rotate the end while acting on it through a unit
rotation, without translation of the far end being.
Simply support = 3EI/L
Fixed support = 4EI/L
Stiffness factor is the ratio of moment of inertia of cross section of beam or wire
to it's length. Stiffness factor is the measure of “resistance to bending”.
Absolute stiffness:- Absolute stiffness is represented in terms of E, I and L, such as 4EI/L.
Relative stiffness:- Relative stiffness is represented in terms of I and L, omitting the constant
E. Relative stiffness is the ratio of stiffness to two or more members at a joint.
Carry over Moment:- It is defined as the moment induced at the fixed end of the beam by the
action of moment applied at the other end, which is hinged. Carry over moment is the same
nature of applied moment.
Carry over factor:- It is the ratio of the moment developed at the far end to the moment
develop at near end.

Distribution factor:- “Distribution at any end of a member factor is the ratio of the stiffness
factor of the member being considered to the sum of the stiffness’s of all the members meeting
at that particular continuous joint. The distribution factor at joint A is obviously equal to zero
being a fixed joint.
When several members meet at a joint and a moment is applied at the joint to produce
rotation without translation of the members, the moment is distributed among all the
members meeting at that joint proportionate to their stiffness.

SINKING CASE
From below figure it is observe that the support B is sink (settle).
Therefore take negative sign for LHS and Positive sign for RHS.
If more than one support is sink (i.e. 2 supports), then for span AB consider the sink of B and
it is negative due to LHS. For span BC subtract lower value form higher and take difference of
both and it is in positive sign due to RHS.
