i. Vulcanicity, is the movement of the molten materials (magma) from the interior
of the earth through fissure into the earth’s surface.
ii. Diastrophism is the movement of the solid part of the earth toward each other
or away from one another or side way.
(b) Difference between the following terms (2marks@)
i. Magma is the mixture of molten rocks and gases in the interior of the earth’s crust while
lava is the materials found on the earth’s crust.
ii. Folding is the bending of rocks of the earth’s crust wile faulting is the cracking or
fracturing of the earth’s crust.
5. Four evidences to prove that the earth is spherical in shape (1marks@)
a) Sun rise and sun set
b) Ship visibility
c) Circumnavigation of the earth
d) Aerial photograph
e) Lunar eclipse
6. (a) Classification of rocks according to the mode of formation (3marks@)
i. Igneus rocks, formed through cooling and solidification of molten materials from
the interior of the earth.
ii. Sedimentary rocks, these are rocks formed when sediments are accumulated,
compacted and cemented together.
iii. Metamorphic rocks, these are rocks which are formed when one type of rock
change into another type of rock after having been subjected under intense heat
or pressure or both.
(b) Four importance of rocks for social and economic development (1marks@)
i. Used for building materials, for example limestone
ii. Used for manufacturing of chemicals, for example salt
iii. Formation of soil which can be good for agriculture
iv. Storing of underground water
v. Some rocks are used for fuel, for example a coal
vi. Mineral deposit
7. (a) Mean annual temperature (3marks)
Sum of the months
12months
(26+27+25+25+26+26+27+26+26+26+25+25)0C
12
0
=25.8 C
Thus, Mean annual temperature = 25.80C
(b) Annual range temperature (3marks)
Highest month – Lowest month
270C – 250C = 20C
Thus, Annual range temperature = 20C
(c) Total annual rainfall (3marks)
= total amount of rainfall in the year
(170+180+165+175+180+178+177+140+110+90+100+13)MM
=1795MM
Thus, the total amount of rainfall = 1795MM
