Report on 31stNational Children’s Science Congress-2023

Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science & Technology (APCOST) has organized the
state level event of 31st National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) during 29th& 30th
November, 2023 at KL (Deemed to be University) Vaddeswaram, Guntur District successfully
and about 400 participants including Child scientists (CS), Guide / Escort Teachers, District
Coordinators, District Academic Coordinators from all 26 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Introduction about NCSC:
National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), a flagship program of National Council
for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology
(DST), Government of India, was launched nationwide in 1993, for children of 10 - 17 years age
which includes both regular school-goers, dropouts, children of slum or street dwellers. This
program also provides platform for specially-abled children (Divyangjan) to show their talent in
science and technology field. It acts as a platform for the children to be rational and apply
scientific methods to understand research and seek solutions for solving local problems in their
neighborhoods. This scientific inquiry-based learning program will be held every year on a
specific focal theme which is continued consecutively for two years, and is decided upon the
basic principle of ‘Local for Global’. Keeping this declaration as well as consequences in view,
the focal theme of NCSC 2023 has been decided as “Understanding Ecosystem for Health and
well-being”.

This theme is divided into 5 sub themes as listed below:

1. Know Your Ecosystem


2. Fostering health, nutrition and well – being
3. Social and Cultural practices for ecosystem and health
4. Ecosystem based approach for self – reliance
5. Technological innovation for ecosystem and health

All the projects were prepared on above focal theme and sub themes.
31st NCSC Orientation:
During August 2023, with the active support of Department of School Education, Andhra
Pradesh, APCOST has organized State Level Orientation program through online mode on
10.08.2023, in which District Coordinators (DCs) & District Academic Coordinators (DACs)
from 26 districts have attended. Member Secretary of APCOST Dr. Y. Aparna advised DCs &
DACs to work sincerely to motivate the students/ children for good quality projects for state and
national level. The Project Officer APCOST in his address urged all the DEOs to extend their
fullest cooperation & support to their NCSC teams so as to organize orientations and followed by
district events.
During the orientation, 5 DCs/DACs namely Kakinada, East Godavari, Dr. B R
Ambedkar Konaseema, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam Districts have presented PPTs on Focal Theme
(Understanding Eco-System for Health & Wellbeing) & its 5 Sub- Themes.
Divisional Level Orientation:
District Coordinators have organized Divisional Level Orientations to Science Teachers
in their respective districts with the support of District Education Department and explained
about modalities, guidelines, focal theme& sub-themes and project preparations.
District Events:
As per NCSTC &APCOST guidelines, all the 26 Districts DCs have organized Divisional
Level Orientations to Science Teachers and followed by District Events in their respective
districts during November, 2023 with the support from the District Education Department. At the
district level, a total of 4125 projects were prepared and exhibited by child scientists. Out of
which Kakinada district has on top among all the districts with highest number 278 projects,
similarly Sri Satya Sai district has the lowest number with 82 projects. Among total of 4125
projects 182 projects from 26 districts were selected for presentation at the state level event.

State Level Event of NCSC
Inauguration Session:
Two days state level evaluation process at KL
Deemed to be University has been inaugurated on 29th
November, 2023. Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma, the
Vice Chancellor of KL Deemed to be University
inaugurated state level program along with Member
Secretary APCOST Dr. Dr. Y. Aparna, CEO of
Science City Dr. K. Jayarami Reddy, Smt. P. Sailaja,
DEO of Guntur, Dr. P. Uma Mohan, representative of Prof. C. K. Das Academy, Kandukuru,
Nellore.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Dr. Y. Aparna said that
she is happy to be a part of this most prestigious and
Flagship program designed for students as per
guidelines of NCSCTC. She said that we have planned
for all sectors of students including Autism and
Mentally Challenged Students. She insisted that
APCOST is committed to “Science for All” and creating special projects for social development
through APCOST. She also conveyed her heartfelt congratulations to the NCSC project group
leaders, child scientists and all their family members.
Mr. Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma Garu, Vice
Chancellor of Host Institution Management, the Chief Guest
at the Program in his address, said that it is a great pleasure
that the 31st NCSC 2023 event is being held with the main
theme of "Understanding Environment for Health and
Welfare" and that everyone will have to adopt a healthy
lifestyle without disturbing the nature. He wished all us to
work for a sustainable society for the future generations.
Mr. Dr. Jayarami Reddy Science City CEO said that he is very
happy to be a part of this NCSC and congratulated the APCOST
Member Secretary and staff for organizing this State Level NCSC
to such a high level. He wishes all your future journey great
success.

Smt. P. Sailaja, the DEO of Guntur expressed her happiness that


NCSC 2023 state level event is conducting in Guntur Division, motivated all the students should
become good scientists like Abdul Kalam and
education is the way for all the poor to develop.
Evolution process has been commenced by Dr. P.
Murali, State Academic Coordinator and his team
with 5 teams. Out of these 182 projects at State
Event, 17 projects (an as per our state quota) have
been short listed by 7 teams of 15 evaluators to
participate in the National event.

Valedictory Session:
A valedictory session was held on 30th November, 2023. Dr. B. Pratap Reddy, SCERT
Director, Dr. K.S. Jagannath Rao, KL Deemed to be University, Pro Chancellor, Host Institution
Management, participated as Special Guests.
Mr. Dr. B. Pratap Reddy congratulated all those who have
done good projects with the knowledge of science at a young
age and encouraged everyone to learn new things like this
that will be useful for the coming generation. Also explained
about AP state government priority on education sector and
urged to make use of the governments’ schemes for self-
development. The Member Secretary Dr. Y. Aparna
presented the report about 31st NCSC activities. The Special
guests along with Dr. Y. Aparna Member Secretary, APCOST has announced the best 17
projects and also 3 consolation winners list and distributed certificates, medal, cash awards
sponsored by C. K. Das Academy.
