Field Study 2

Learning Episode 1
The Teacher We Remember

Resource Teacher: Arien A. Ginco, JR. Teachers Signature:_______ School: CRAAHS

Grade/year Level: Grade 9 Subject Area: EPAS Date: __________

Analyze
1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos
that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
- A great teacher has many important skills. They are good communicators and can explain
things clearly. They are also kind and caring, and they make their students feel safe and
supported. Great teachers are good planners and organizers, and they make sure their students
are learning and having fun. They are also patient and understanding, and they help their
students when they are struggling.

2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

- No, these competencies are not just about professional skills. They also include personal
qualities like kindness, patience, and understanding. A great teacher needs to be a good
person too, with values like honesty, respect, and empathy. These personal qualities help
teachers connect with their students and make a positive difference in their lives.

3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a

lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades?
Explain your answer.
- No, it's not enough for a teacher to just have professional skills. They need to have personal
qualities too. Just knowing how to plan and teach lessons, manage a class, and grade students
is not enough. A great teacher also needs to care about their students, be patient, and
understand their needs. They need to be able to connect with their students and make learning
fun and meaningful. Without these personal qualities, a teacher may be good at teaching, but
they won't be great.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or professio

competencies?
- Both personal qualities and professional competencies are important for a teacher to be
great. But if I had to choose, I would say that personal qualities are more important. This is
because a teacher with good personal qualities like kindness, empathy, and patience can make
a bigger difference in a student's life. They can create a positive and supportive learning
environment that makes students feel safe and happy. Professional competencies are
important too, but without good personal qualities, a teacher may not be able to connect with
their students and make learning meaningful.

5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

- We remember the teachers who cared about us and made us feel special. They were kind,
patient, and understanding. They took the time to listen to us and help us when we needed it.
They made learning fun and exciting. We remember how they made us feel, not just what
they taught us. They were more than just teachers, they were mentors and friends.

Reflect

Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?
- As a student intern, I think I possess some good personal traits like being shy but willing to
learn, and being kind to others. I'm also a bit hardworking and try my best to do things
correctly. However, I don't possess traits like being super confident or outgoing, which can
make it hard for me to speak up in groups or share my ideas. To improve, I think I need to
work on being more confident and communicating more effectively. I also need to practice
being more organized and managing my time better.

Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

- As a student intern, I think I'm strongly capable of demonstrating professional competencies
like planning and organizing lessons, and managing a classroom. I'm also good at assessing
student learning. I'm able to use technology to support my teaching and learning, and I'm
willing to adapt to new situations and challenges. I'm also able to work collaboratively with
others, like my cooperating teacher and other interns.

In which competencies do I need to develop more?

- I need to develop more in giving feedback to students. This is an important part of teaching,
and I want to get better at it. I also need to work on communicating more effectively with my
students, colleagues, and parents. This includes speaking clearly, listening actively, and
asking good questions.

Who are the teachers that we remember most?

- We remember the teachers who cared about us and made us feel special. They were kind,
patient, and understanding. They took the time to listen to us and help us when we needed it.
They made learning fun and exciting. We remember how they made us feel, not just what
they taught us. They were more than just teachers, they were mentors and friends.

clearly and answering questions were least/not displayed and as a result, students

help, or feeling very stressed.

Work on my Artifacts

Attach your reflections here.

- As I think about what makes a great teacher, I realize that it's not just about knowing the
subject matter. It's also about having good personal qualities like kindness, patience, and
understanding. These are the teachers that we remember most - the ones who cared about us
and made us feel special. I also think about my own strengths and weaknesses as a student
teacher. I'm kind and willing to learn, but I need to work on being more confident and
communicating more effectively. I'm good at planning lessons and managing a classroom, but
I need to develop more in giving feedback to students and communicating with others. Being
a great teacher is not just about having professional skills - it's also about having good
personal qualities. By working on our strengths and weaknesses, we can become better
teachers and make a positive difference in our students' lives.
