Dr. B.M.N College of Home Science is a multi-faculty institution, centrally

located in Matunga, Our College is one of the 8 institutions under the umbrella
of Seva Mandal Education Society with a total population of more than 7000
students on campus. We have been organizing our Intercollegiate Cultural
Festival 'Akanksha' for the last 21 years. This is an extremely popular event which
draws a very enthusiastic response from a large number of colleges in Mumbai.

ABOUT SEVA MANDAL EDUCATION SOCIETY

Dr. Bhanuben Mahendra Nanavati College of Home Science is conducted college
under Seva Mandal Education Society. The foundation for SMES was laid in 1957
when it began its first institution for women with merely seven students. It has
gradually expanded over a period of time, both in terms of the number of
students as well as the courses offered.

The Society has been successfully imparting qualitative education to women for
over six decades and has a student strength of about 6000 women students on
campus. It offers a variety of programs ranging from certificate and diploma
programs, Junior College, undergraduate degree programs, and postgraduate
degree and diploma courses.

ABOUT DR. B.M.N. COLLEGE OF HOME SCIENCE

Our college was among the few prestigious colleges across Mumbai to receive
Autonomous Status in 2019. Autonomy is the freedom granted by UGC to selected
institutions of high standards to develop curriculum based on current industry needs.
2024 witnessed yet another important milestone as Dr BMN College has been conferred
with the ‘Empowered Autonomous Status’ and we are the first college under the SNDT
Women’s University affiliated colleges to have this prestigious recognition. The college will
remain affiliated to S.N.D.T. Women’s University but will conduct its own admission
procedures and exams. The final Degree or Diploma will be granted from S.N.D.T.
Women’s University. The college has received a Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan
grant of Rs. 5 crores under the ‘Enhancing Quality and Excellence in Select Autonomous
Colleges Scheme’. We have also received a UGC grant to set up a STRIDE Research
Capacity Building Centre. We ventured into the uncharted but exciting horizons of
National Education Policy (NEP).

"Akanksha" receives a resounding reaction from
colleges throughout Mumbai. Every year,
"AKANKSHA" showcases its energy with a range of
captivating themes, like Angels & Demons,
Mumbai Meri Jaan, Udaan – Bulandiyon Ki Taraf,
Colors, Panchmahabhuta (Elements of Life), and
many more. The human spirit has always proven
resilient and able to overcome obstacles.

This year ,the theme for 'AKANKSHA 2024' is

'Emotions'

‘EMOTIONS’ are fundamental to what it is to be

human; they influence our decisions, attitudes,
and interpersonal relationships. They infuse our
lives with richness and complexity, molding our
experiences and igniting our passions. Our
civilization is built on the wide range of emotions
that both make each of us distinct yet unified,
much like a spectrum of emotions. Every feeling,
from courage to hope, from joy to grief, has a
narrative that connects us.

WAY TO COLLEGE

To get here, you can board any train from CSMT on the Central Main Line and get
off at Matunga Station. From there, either walk down or hire a cab to S.N.D.T.
College (behind Don Bosco School & Khalsa College on R.A. Kidwai Rd), next to
Amulakh Amichand School. You can also get down at King’s Circle Station. From
there, it is walking distance to the college campus.

GENERAL RULES
Entry for students will be allowed strictly on the basis of valid college ID
card.
Registration of events will be entertained on first cum first preference
basis.
Entry fee for all individual & group events is Rs. 50/- per participant.
On the spot registration is available.
Participants need to register themselves for the event & pay the entry
fee for confirmation.
Participation certificates will also be awarded. The models/
accompanist for any event will not be awarded any participation
certificate.
Judges’ decision will be final and no further queries will be entertained.
Misbehavior on the part of any person will result in his/her
disqualification & their expulsion from the college premises at the
discretion of the organizers.
Organizers reserve the rights to modify rules & regulations.
Students are strictly forbidden from carrying any of the following
objects in the college premises: cigarettes, lighters, match-sticks,
candles, lasers, drugs, alcohol & sharp objects.
Cameras & Transistors are prohibited & the Cell Phones should be kept
on silent mode.
You must take care of your personal belongings as the host college will
not be responsible for any kind of loss.
Decent dress code is expected from all the participants.
All the winners will be awarded certificates at the end of the event.
Participants should report an hour before the event. No entry will be
entertained after reporting time.
Both participants & attendants are strictly prohibited from carrying any
food articles in the college hall or auditorium.

GROUP DANCE
"Feel the Beat, Express the Soul!"

Rules:
Each team must comprise 8-12 participants.Time limit will be 3-5 minutes.

Participants must submit their music tracks in advance.

Teams must carry a backup of their music tracks on a pen drive.

Teams should report at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Failure to do so may
lead to disqualification

Only 1 team per college will be permitted.

All dance forms are allowed except folk dances.

Performances should be theme based.

Participants can use props. Any dangerous stunts or actions that can harm participants
or the audience are prohibited.

The use of any harmful materials, such as fire, sharp objects, glass, or liquids that could
damage the stage or harm participants, is strictly forbidden..

No rehearsal time will be provided on the main stage before the competition.

Participants must wear decent outfits. Inappropriate clothing is not allowed.

T-backs tops and bottoms above knee- length are strictly prohibited.

Any inappropriate behavior or disrespect towards other participants, judges, or organizers

will result in immediate disqualification.

The judge's decision will be the final decision.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard copy of the
certificate and cash prize.

Fashion Show
"Where Style Meets Soul!"

Rules:
Only one team per college comprising 6 to 12 participants is allowed.

The performance time limit must not exceed 5 to 7 minutes,

including setup.

Participating groups should carry their soundtracks in a pendrive

and submit them in advance to the event organizers.

Participants must carry their college ID cards.

At least one element representing the theme is compulsory.

Any form of vulgarity or obscenity will lead to immediate

disqualification from the competition, and revealing clothing is not
allowed.

The use of fire, colors, or anything that could create a mess on stage
is strictly prohibited.

Performances should be theme-based, and the use of props is

allowed.

The judges' decision will be final and binding.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a

hard copy of the certificate and cash prize.

Face Makeup
"Blending Beauty with the Essence of Emotion”

Rules:
Per college - 2 entries only.

Time Limit - 1 1/2 hr.

Participants should bring their own models.

The makeup artistry must be relevant to the theme "Emotions”.

Design must fit on the face. If required,can extend up to 50 % of the neck portion.

Participants are encouraged to dress in a way that complements their Makeup

theme.

Participants must bring their own makeup kit, tools ,a small mirror and other
requirements.

Participants should work independently.

Use of Decorative Accessories such as stickers, stones, gemstones and beads are
permitted.

Participants should not have any objection to the organizers broadcasting

participants content/videos/photos on social media.

Participants are responsible for their own belongings. The organizers will not be
liable for any losses.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard copy of
the certificate and cash prize. (No certificates will be given to the models).

Copying from the mobile or any other references is not allowed.

Cartooning
Where Every Sketch Tells a “Story"

Rules:
Per college - 2 entries only.

Time Limit - 2 hrs.

The art work must be relevant to the theme "Emotions”.

Organizers will solely provide a white drawing paper of A3 size.

Use of any medium is allowed e.g. (Pens, markers, crayons, paints, glitter)

Participants must bring their own drawing materials and other related
things for the competition. (Colours, brushes, pens, palette, rough cloth,
newspaper, water bowl, etc)

Participants should work independently.

Participants are responsible for their own belongings. The organizers will not
be liable for any losses.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard
copy of the certificate and cash prize.

Cartoons will be judged based on creativity, originality, neatness and how

well they relate to the theme.

Participants should not have any objection to the organizers broadcasting

Street Play
"Voices Unleashed, Emotions Unmasked!"

Rules:
Topic for the play: Aids Awareness/ Emotion

Only 6-10 participants are allowed in a team. Each College can send only
one team.

The play can be performed in English and Hindi language only, but the
use of obscene or vulgar language is strictly prohibited.

Teams can use minimal props and costumes. However, all props and
costumes must be managed by the participants themselves. No
technical assistance will be provided.

Teams may use background music or live instruments, but no pre-

recorded sound effects or electronic devices are allowed. All sound
should be produced live during the performance.

Time limit is 8-10 minutes and 2 minutes for setup, if exceeded will result
in negative marking. This includes setup and removal of props.

The content of the play should not offend any community or individual
based on religion, caste, gender, or politics. Any play found to violate this
will be disqualified.

Each team should nominate a team leader who will coordinate with the
event organizers and ensure that all rules are followed

The performance will be judged on the following criteria like theme, work
on Acting, Design, Energy & General Impressions.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard
copy of the certificate and cash prize.

Standup Comedy
"Laugh Out Loud, Feel the Joy!"

Rules:
Time Limit: Each participant will be given 3 to 5 minutes to perform. Exceeding
the time limit may result in point deductions.

Original Content: The material should be original. Plagiarism will result in

disqualification.

Language: Participants can perform in any language, but English or Hindi is

preferred for broader accessibility.

Content: The material should be clean and avoid offensive topics. This includes
avoiding hate speech, explicit language, and offensive jokes based on race,
religion, gender, etc.

Props: Props are allowed but must be limited and relevant to the performance.

Use of Microphone: A microphone will be provided. Participants must use it

effectively to ensure the audience can hear their performance clearly.

Audience Interaction: Engaging with the audience is encouraged but should

remain respectful and inclusive.

Disqualification: Any inappropriate or offensive material that violates college

standards will lead to disqualification.

Performance Setup: Participants must be ready 10 minutes before their

scheduled time. If they miss their slot, they may not be allowed to perform.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard copy

Tug Of War
"Strength in Unity, Pull with Passion!"

Rules:
Teams consist of 8 members. Substitutes, if allowed, can only join
between rounds.

Girls and boys will not compete against one another.

Only hands can hold the rope. No wrapping the rope around the body
or using grip-enhancing materials.

Players must remain standing. Digging feet into the ground for grip is
prohibited.

The game begins on the referee’s signal. Pulling before the signal is a
foul.

Unsportsmanlike conduct, such as physical violence or using prohibited

footwear, may lead to disqualification.

Participants must wear Sports shoes.

Only one Team from each college is allowed

Referee’s decision will be the Final decision.

Flameless Cooking
"Creativity on a Plate, No Flames Required!"

Rules:
Open to students of all ages. Only individual participation is allowed.

Participants are required to report 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the event at the
venue.

No non-veg items are allowed.

Participants are required to bring their own cutlery, utensils, and ingredients.

Participants are not allowed to use any open flame, stove, or other fire-based cooking methods. All
dishes must be prepared without heat.

Participants will be given 1 hour to prepare and present their dishes. Any extra time taken will result
in a penalty.

Only specific methods like blending, chopping, mixing, marinating are allowed.

Ensure all participants follow food safety guidelines, including washing hands, using clean utensils,
and handling food properly to prevent contamination.

All ingredients should be fresh and safe for consumption without cooking.

Only raw, or naturally edible ingredients allowed-no heating or cooking.

A unique name of the dish and small description of the emotion depicted of their dish should also
be submitted along with the dish.

Participants must clean up their work area after the competition.

The judge's decision will be the final decision.

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard copy of the certificate and
cash prize.

Reel Making
"Capture Moments, Create Magic!"

Rules:
Theme: All reels must align with the given theme (EMOTIONS). Any off-topic submissions will be
disqualified.

Duration: Reels should not exceed 60 seconds.

Format: Reels must be submitted in vertical video format (9:16), compatible with Instagram or similar
platforms.

Content: The content should be original and not infringe on copyrights. Plagiarism or using someone
else’s work will result in disqualification.

Language: Reels can be in any language, but must include English subtitles if in a regional language.

Audio and Music: Mashup, Remixes and Medlays can be used for audio. Contestants are in charge of
setting up their own tracks and then uploading.

Team Size: Only individual participation is permitted.

Submission Guidelines: Reels should be submitted in MP4 format via email or uploaded through a
provided link by the deadline.

Editing: Basic video editing is allowed (e.g., cuts, filters, transitions), but excessive post-production
that overpowers the reel will lose points for creativity.

Disqualification: Vulgar or inappropriate content (including offensive language, nudity, or violence)

will lead to immediate disqualification.

College identity card is compulsory.

The reel has to be made in the college campus (Dr. BMN College of Home Science).

All participants will receive e-certificates. The winners will receive a hard copy of the certificate and
cash prize.
