36. Case Study -1
In a library, 25 students read Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics books. It was found that 15
students read Mathematics, 12 students read Physics while 11 students read Chemistry. 5
students read both Mathematics and Chemistry , 9 students read Physics and Mathematics. 4
students read Physics and Chemistry and 3 students read all the three subjects. Based on the
above information answer the following questions using venn diagram.
(i) Find the number of sudents who read only Chemistry books
(ii) Find the number of students who read Mathematics and Physics but not Chemistry books.
(iii) (a) Find the number of students who donot read any of the subject books.

A rubber ball is dropped from a height of 30 m above the ground. Each time the ball strikes the
ground, It rebounds to 80% of its previous height.
(i) Identify the sequence formed by the vertical height of the ball after each bounce. Justify
your answer.
(ii) About how high will the ball go after its fourth bounce?
(iii) (a) What will be the total distance travelled by the ball before it actually comes to rest?

(iv) (b) The second term of a geometric series is −20 and the sum to infinity of the series
is 64, find the common ratio of the series.
38. Case Study -3
Read the following information and answer the questions given below.
There are 52 cards in a standard deck divided into 4 suits; Diamonds, Clubs, Hearts, Spades.
“Face Cards” include Jacks, Queens, and Kings. Black cards include all Clubs and Spades; Red
cards include all Hearts and Diamonds.
Find the number of ways of choosing four cards from a pack of 52 playing cards if
(i) all four cards are of the same suit.
(ii) two are red cards and two are black cards
