Sonu Nigam is a main Indian vocalist who rose to fame through playback singing in
Bollywood and other movies. Gifted with an exceptionally resonant voice and incredibly
adaptable ability, Sonu Nigam is probably known as the best artist of late times. Beginning

Early Life
Sonu Nigam was born on July 30, 1973. His parents are Agam Kumar and Shobha Nigam.
He spent his early years of life in Faridabad town of Haryana. He has two sisters, Meenal and
Nikita. He did his early education from J. D. Tytler School in Delhi and his graduation from
Delhi University. He moved to Mumbai in 1990 trying to be a playback artist. Sonu Nigam
wedded Madhurima Banerjee on February 15, 2002. He has a child, Neevan, who was born
on July 27, 2007.

Music Education
It is a well known saying that music runs in the veins of certain fortunate people. That is the
case with Sonu Nigam also. Sonu's dad, Agam Kumar Nigam used to perform in stage shows.
Sonu used to go with his dad to his shows and build his interest towards music from that
point. When he was four years of age, he sang the superhit melody of Mohammed Rafi "Kya
Hua Tera Wada" of the film "Murmur KisiSe Kum Nahi". That was the start of his career as a
singer.
Sonu's preparation for a musical career started at home. He grew up taking the lessons from
his dad. He learned traditional music from Ustad Maha Kanjar Naveed in Delhi. He took part
in various public music contests and won a large portion of them. It was then that the
possibility of turning into a renowned playback vocalist in Bollywood happened to him. He
chose to move to Mumbai when he was 18 and was joined by his dad. While he was looking
for opportunities in Mumbai, he continued his training with Ustad Maha Kanjar.

Career
Sonu got his first opportunity in the field of playback singing in the film Janam in 1990 yet
shockingly the film wasn't delivered. Dazzled by his ability, T-series proprietor, Gulshan
Kumar offered him a singing agreement for his forthcoming venture 'Bewafa Sanam'. The
melody 'Achha Sila Diya Tune' turned into a hit and individuals paid attention to the
marvellous voice of Sonu Nigam.

He struggled for opportunities to be a playback singer. In his initial years, Mumbai didn't
offer him many opportunities. He did some radio advertisements. His main source of revenue
was from stage shows as a Mohammed Rafi voice twofold. He likewise did some forgettable
playback work in films like 'Aaja Meri Jaan' (1992), 'Shabnam' (1993), 'Aag' (1994),
'Khuddar' (1994), 'Hulchul' (1994), 'Double' (1994) and 'Smash Jaane' (1995).

His vocation took off when he sang consecutive hits like 'Sandese Aate Hain' in the 1997 film
'Boundary' for which he won the Zee Cine Award. He rearranged among different melodic
classes and styles with tunes like 'YehDil' in 'Pardes' (1999) toward one side and the title
track of the 2004 film 'Kal Ho Na Ho'.
