3. The Kipwiru cement dealer has two godowns at Tandika and Mtongani each with
storage capacity of 100 tonnes and 50 tonnes of cement respectively. The three
customers Chacha, Dumila and Esau placed their orders as 60, 50, and 40 tonnes of
cement respectively. The cost of transporting 1 tonne of cement (in nearest thousands)
from the godowns to each customer is given in the table below:
From  To Tandika Mtongani
Chacha 60 32
Dumila 18 10
Esau 8 21

(a) How should Kipwiru fulfill the orders of its customers at minimum cost?
(b) What is the minimum cost obtained?
(c) If one tonne of cement is sold for 70,000/= at Tandika and 100,000/= at
Mtongoni, calculate the net profit that Kipwiru will get assuming the
transportation cost is upon him.

4. (a) In an examination the percentage marks of the 120 boys are denoted by x and
the percentage mark of the 80 girls are denoted by y . The marks are summarized
by the totals x  7020 , x 2  424320 and y 2  352130 . Calculate the girls’
mean mark given that the standard deviation for all these students is 10.

(b) At company ABC, there are 25 employees. Each employee travels to work every
morning in his or her own car. The distribution of the driving times (in minutes)
from home to work for the employees is shown in the table below.
Driving Times (minutes) Number of Employees
0  t  10 3
10  t  20 10
20  t  30 6
30  t  40 4
40  t  50 2

Calculate the following statistical measures
(i) Mean and variance by coding method (use 15 as the assumed mean)
(ii) Mean deviation
(iii) The minimum driving time of the highest 30% of the workers

5. (a) Use the laws of algebra of sets to simplify Ac  Bc  C  B  C    A  C 

(b) If n A  B  C   115 , n A  C   90 and nB  35 . Find n A  C   B 
(c) At Kizimkazi High school there are 1000 students. 675 do Economics, 750 do
Commerce and 125 do Accountancy. All those doing Economics do Commerce
50 take Economics and Accountancy and 100 take Commerce and Accountancy.
Using Venn diagram, calculate number of learners who take
(i) Commerce, but not Accountancy or Economics.
(ii) Commerce but not Accountancy.
(iii) Commerce or Accountancy but not Economics
