Norman Ernest Borlaug, born on March 25, 1914, in Cresco, Iowa, USA, is often hailed
as the "father of the Green Revolution." He grew up on a farm where he developed an
early interest in agriculture and the challenges faced by farmers. Borlaug pursued his
education at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Ph.D. in plant pathology
and genetics. His groundbreaking work in developing high-yield, disease-resistant
wheat varieties significantly increased agricultural productivity, especially in developing
countries.
Borlaug's most notable contributions came during his tenure at the International Maize

diseases and capable of producing higher yields under intensive farming practices. His
work led to dramatic increases in wheat production in countries like Mexico, India, and
Pakistan, effectively preventing famines and improving food security for millions of
people. This agricultural transformation became known as the Green Revolution, which
played a crucial role in reducing global hunger.
For his outstanding contributions to agriculture and humanity, Borlaug received
numerous accolades, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970. He continued to
