So far this year students have been exploring the genre of science _ction through the study of 'Ender's Game' by
Orson Scott Card. They have researched and analysed how science _ction writers use futuristic settings to explore
issues in our current world. As part of this work the students have developed skills in comparing and contrasting
aspects in the text and supporting their ideas with evidence.

explored population issues. Zoey attends classes with a positive attitude and takes charge of her learning. Zoey’s
strengths include researching a topic using a variety of sources, supporting a perspective with relevant evidence,
and analyzing sources in terms of their origin and purpose as well as their value in conducting research. Zoey also
enjoys participating in class discussions. Zoey can continue to progress by determining which evidence is most

Sciences: Sciences Dina Tagaeva
This term, students in science class focused on the signi_cance of healthy nutrition for humans. At the start of the
unit, they learned about the essential biological molecules like carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins, as well as the
importance of certain vitamins, minerals, and _ber in maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. Students had the
chance to better understand and read the information presented in the tables, graphs and charts on the topics of
balanced nutrition. They learned to better describe data using the correct terminology and, among other things, to
draw correct conclusions based on the interpretation of those data. All these skills were assessed during each
student's independent summative assessment.

Comments:
Zoey has shown signi_cant improvement in her science class. Her academic language has evidently improved, and
she can now better articulate her thoughts in a more coherent manner. Zoey has demonstrated an excellent work
ethic, producing quality work consistently. However, there are still some areas where Zoey needs to improve. The
evaluation of scienti_c principles remains her biggest challenge, as it requires strong background knowledge and
analytical skills. To improve, she is recommended to deepen her understanding of topics by reading more, working
out dif_cult concepts, and using researched information meaningfully. With improvement in her understanding, her
analytical skills will naturally improve as part of the learning process.

Mathematics: Mathematics Patrick Njeru
MYP Mathematics is all about building a _rm foundation in how a student works with and understand numbers and
their operations. In year 6 and 7 students focus on ratios and proportions, probability, and move into Algebraic
thinking including puzzles and tricks. In this course, we will fully explore 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional
Geometry. We will also start the foundations of Statistical reasoning throughout this course. Students will have
weekly assignments and/or projects to encourage their learning in a collaborative format. They will also keep a
notebook to help facilitate their organization and track their learning. Collaborative learning in teams, individual
learning and technological devices will be used throughout this course to help students understand mathematical
concepts in many different formats.

In this unit students will explore the Hollywood studio system and its social and economic context. Students will
produce a case study of classic Hollywood _lm gaining skills in research, textual analysis, slide presentation
formatting, MLA referencing, _lm lighting exercises, and _lm staging exercises.

Comments:
Lor, Yuen Tone (Zoey) has worked to very good level in Y8 Media Arts this term. She has focused to a very good
level on her class tasks and collaborated with her production teammates in communicating her knowledge about
sound design in _lm production; as well as in planning narrative concepts, and taking on different technical
production roles. In addition she has evaluated her work honestly. Zoey is a sociable student, but needs to be more
assertive in pulling her production team together to complete tasks. Next term I hope to see Zoey taking on more
of a leadership role and taking more creative risks.

Arts: Music Stefania Porumb
This term, so far students learnt about sharing ideas between Musical Eras, what technologies facilitated
communication through different times and spaces. We looked at a very famous example which connected
Baroque Era and Contemporary Era. We learnt some analyzing skills so we can compare similarities and
differences in two pieces of music that share a similar theme, in particular we created two different Major tonalities.

Arts: Visual Arts Anil Goswami
Grade 8 students will learn how to use the elements and principles of art and apply them using a variety of two-
dimensional mediums. This will include drawing, painting, and mixed media. Students will study the art cycle, art
historical, and cultural incuences on their art. They will also explore the philosophical nature of art (aesthetics) and
learn how to make the critical nature of art. In addition to that, the instruction for this class will incorporate
strategies from the International Baccalaureate program, mission, and vision of our school. Students will continue
to aspire to recect those characteristics of the IB Learner Pro_le. As a result of the high standards, success in this
class will depend on the motivation of the student. Students will practice and explore the art studio for creativity

limited to Board games design, technical drawings for diverse projects etc...

Comments:
This semester, in our design class, students developed a wooden product solution. The idea was to create a spice
rack. In order to do so, students researched, developed ideas and created an original design. Prototypes were
made on Tinkercad, a 2D/3D modeling software, and made from laser cut wood. It was the _rst woodworking
experience for the students. The focus was safety, time management and building technical skills using different
tools.

Lor, Yuen Tone (Zoey) has shown balance in tasks and responsibilities, with effective time management and a
mature attitude. She consistently acts with integrity and is organized, keeping track of deadlines. Her commitment
to project-work impressed me and recects her overall approach to learning. She has strengths but can improve
critical and creative thinking skills when analyzing problems. Encouraging her to think outside the box and consider
multiple perspectives will enhance her understanding of complex issues. With guidance and practice, she has the
potential to enhance these skills and become a well-rounded learner.
