• Tools can
assist us in
many ways.
• A handheld tool used for
making small holes in
various materials.

• It consists of a pointed
metal and wooden shaft
with a handle at one end.
Tools used for
cutting, typically
consisting of a metal
blade and a handle.
• A flexible tool used
for measuring length.

Ruler
• It is used for
measuring things
in straight lines.
• Pointed piece of a
substance used for
marking.

Pliers
• Tools with two handles
that are used for holding,
pulling, bending, or
cutting.
Clamp
• Use to holding things
together.

Scissor
• Consisting of

If you were to design a new
tool for basket weaving, what
feature would you like to
include to enhance the
weaving experience?
BASKET
WEAVING
• The process of
weaving or sewing
pliable materials into
three-dimensional
artifacts, particular
to form a basket.
WEFTS
• These are the basket
strands that weave through
the warps; they are lighter,
and thinner.

WARPS
• These are the strands that
stand upright and form the
side supports of the
baskets.
• The weavers are the
basket strands that
weave through the
spokes or stakes.

• The spokes or stakes are

the foundation of a
basket; they are usually
strong and stiff (Vergara,
2020).
1. PLAITING
• It is a straightforward
technique in which the weft
crosses over and under one
warp at a time.
• When a plaited object is flat,
such as with a mat, it can be
difficult to distinguish the
weft from the warp.

2. TWINING
• It is a technique in which two wefts
cross over each other between
warps.
• Many twined baskets start with a
plaited bottom. The weft and warp
of the plaited bottom can be split
into smaller pieces and become the
warp of the basket sides.
3. COILING

• It is a technique which
involves sewing. A
foundation material (such
as split root bundles) is
coiled upwards and stitched
into place. A pointed tool
called an awl is used to
pierce a hole in each coil.

What basket weaving technique
will you prefer to apply in making
baskets in the future?
• Prepare all the materials and tools. (Bamboo, knife,
and scissor).
• The size of the weft and warp should be the same,
and it would depend on the size of the basket.
1. Weave the weft on the warp to form a base (Rectangular
shape).
2. Bend the bamboo upward.
3. Insert another weft to weave on the bent bamboo.
3. Hide and cut the excess warp.
