Bridging the gap:
Strategies for improving healthcare
access in Sitio tabay
(Research Study)
RIZZA JANE FRANCISCO & ALLANA MAE NAMOL
Overview:
Health care is one of the fundamental rights of every Filipino; it should be available to
everyone, especially in remote areas. However, other Filipinos, especially those who
live in rural areas far from the city, don't receive enough services. There is a huge gap
between those who can afford high-quality healthcare and those who cannot. A
study shows that only 15% had a check-up, despite 63% reporting a family history of
chronic diseases. This provides existential evidence supporting the need for health
programs that will improve access for the underserved rural population (Reyes-Gibby
& Aday 2005).
