Unifrutti SiteSelection

The document outlines the site selection criteria and spatial requirements for a Black Soldier Fly (BSF) waste treatment facility, emphasizing the need for nearby biowaste sources and adequate building infrastructure. It details the components of the facility, including hatching/nursery units and biopond production units, and describes the lifecycle of BSF larvae from hatching to harvesting. The setup aims to optimize space and efficiency in waste conversion processes.

A.

Site Selection

1. Availability of nearby sources of biowaste in sufficient and predictable

amounts.
2. Treatment building should have at least a concrete floor and a roof to
provide a safe and clean workspace and shelter against the weather.

Waste treatment
area

Components:
1. 1 unit Hatching / Nursery (2 sqm)
2. Waste treatment area (10 sqm)
3. 10 units Biopond production units (5 sqm each x 10 units)
4. 1 unit Biopond pre-pupae (15 sqm)
5. 1 unit Fly cage / rearing house ( 4 sqm)
6. 2 unit Harvest bin (5 sqm)

B. BSF Treatment Unit

1. We propose to use the combination of hatching/nursery units and

bioponds production units as this allows efficient conversion per unit of
space available and to reduce the number of handling.

A. Hatching/Nursery unit - BSF eggs will be hatched after 3-5 days.

Eggs will be fed up to 8-10 days on a single load of 1kg for 3-5 days

B. Biopond Production Units - after 3-5 days the larvae are

transferred to a bioponds and left to fed on a single load of 9kg for
9-10 days

C. Bio pond prepupae Unit - the production of pre-pupae is same

as that of maggot for feed - only longer.
D. Harvest bin - after 18-20 days (before larva turns to pre-pupae),
larvae is harvested with frass as a byproduct.
