11 Areas Related To Circles

Time allowed : 1 hour Max. Marks : 30

General Instructions
(a) The question paper consists of 10 questions divided into four sections A, B, C and
D.
(b) Each question in section A (Q. No. 1-3) MCQ/AR carry 1 Marks.
(c) Each question in section B (Q. No. 4-5) carries 2 Marks.
(d) Each question in section C (Q. No. 6-8) carries 3 Marks.
(e) Each question in section D (Q. No. 9-10) carries 5 Marks.
(f) The case study question in section E (Q. No. 11) carry 4 Marks.

SECTION – A (1 Mark Each)

1. If the circumference of a circle is increased from 5π to 10π, then its area is
(a) Halved (b) Doubled (c) Tripled (d) Quadrupled
2. The radius of a wheel is 0.25 m. The number of revolutions it will make to travel a
distance of 11 km is
(a) 2800 (b) 4000 (c) 5500 (d) 7000
3. Given below are two statements: one is labelled as Assertion A and other is labelled
as Reason R.
Assertion (A) : If three sectors whose sector angles are 35°, 65° and 80° are cut
from a circle, then the sum of their sector areas is half the area of
the circle.
Reason (R) : If 3 sectors of sector angles θ1, θ2 and θ3 are cut from a circle of
πT
radius r, then the sum of areas of these sectors is (θ + θ2 +
 1
θ3).
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from
the options given below
(a) Both A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) Both A and R are correct but R is NOT the correct explanation of A
(c) A is correct but R is not correct
(d) A is not correct but R is correct

SECTION – B (2 Marks Each)
4. The minute hand of a clock is 12 cm long. Find the area swept by it in 35 minutes.
5. If the circumference of a circle is numerically equal to 3 times the area of a circle,
then find the radius of the circle.

SECTION – C (3 Marks Each)

6. A chord of a circle of radius 10 cm subtends an angle of 60° at the centre of the
circle. Find the area of the major and minor segments of the circle.
7. In the given figure, the shape of the top of a table is a sector of a
circle with cetnre O and ∠AOB = 90°. If AO = OB = 42 cm, then
find the perimeter of the top of the table.

8. Find the difference of the area of a sector of angle 120° and the corresponding major
sector of a circle of radius 21 cm.

SECTION – D (5 Marks Each)

9. A calf is tied with a rope of length 6 m at the corner of a square grassy lawn of side
20 m, if the length of rope is increased by 5.5 m, find the increase in area of the
grassy lawn in which the calf can graze.
10. A round table cover has six equal designs as shown in figure. If the
radius of the cover is 28 cm, find the cost of making the designs at
the rate of 0.35 per cm2. (Use = 1.7)

SECTION – E (4 Marks Case Study)

11. Shown below is the trophy shield Akshi received on winning an internation Table
tennis tournament.
The trophy is made of a glass sector DOC supported by identical wooden right
triangles ∆DAO and ∆COB. Also, AO = 7 cm and AO : DA = 1: (Use = 1.73)
