Elective units
It is suggested that students take their People and Planet units in their first year as this is when they have the least
number of required units for their degree, and hence the most flexibility in selecting their electives.

PEOPLE and PLANET units

As part of your degree, you must include:
I. one People unit and one Planet unit
II. these cannot be the required units in your degree
III. both units chosen must be outside the Department of Psychology and at least one of the units must be
outside the Faculty of Human Sciences.
A full list of People and Planet units can be found in the handbook
Warning: Units that would not count as People units for Bachelor of Psychology
• PSY250 • PSY350 • STAT170
The PSY250 and PSY350 units are both within the department of Psychology so cannot be counted as a
People unit for Bachelor of Art – Psychology. STAT170 although it is in the Department of Applied Finance
and Actuarial Studies overlaps in content with PSYC105 so cannot be counted as a Planet unit for Bachelor
of Art - Psychology.
A Planet unit that students often consider is ANTH106 Drugs across Cultures, or BBE100 Introduction to
Brain, Behavior and Evolution, however you are free to choose a unit of your interest.
Students are subject to the rules of the degree for the year they enroll. The information in this document is correct at time of creation but the University reserves
the right to vary or withdraw and course(s) and/or unit(s), its fees and the mode of offering of its course(s) and unit(s) without notice. CRICOS provider number 00002J.
The remaining four electives in the first year are your choice and do not have to be taken from the Faculty of
Human Sciences. For a complete list of electives, visit the Handbook and click on ‘Units’ within the Undergraduate
section on the left menu. Please note the prerequisites when choosing your units, as you must meet these in order
to be able to enrol in the units.
