Q1. What are plains? Explain with an example.


Ans. Plain is a flat and leveled land. The land in the plains is fertile because of
rivers. Many people have settled in the Great Indian Plains.
Q2. What is a plateau? Give an example of this landform?
Ans The peninsular region of India is also called the Deccan Plateau. A plateau is
a flat tableland, which is higher than the surrounding area. This region is rich in
minerals.

Q3. What is the difference between an island and a peninsula?


Ans. A peninsula is a piece of land surrounded by water on three sides. An island
is a piece of land surrounded by water on all sides.

Q4. Where are Western and Eastern Ghats located?


Ans. On the western and eastern side of the Deccan Plateau are mountains and
hills. These are called the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats, respectively.

Q5. How are the Himalayas useful to us?


Ans. Many rivers start in the Himalayas, like Ganga, Yamuna and Brahmaputra.
These rivers receive water from the melting snow of the mountains.

1. Describe the geographical landform of Sri Lanka. You may refer to the atlas to
find the answer.
Ans- Sri Lanka is an island as it is surrounded by water on all sides. It is located in
the Indian Ocean. On its East, lies the Bay of Bengal and on its West, lies
the Arabian Sea.

2. Name the longest river in India. Where does it start and where does it end?
Ans- The longest river in India is the Ganga. It starts from the Gangotri glacier in
the Himalayas and ends in the Bay of Bengal.

Map Work- Colour the peninsular region on the map in Red colour.

Label the Western and Eastern ghats, Colour in yellow

Colour the Northern plains in green and desert in light brown.

Colour the islands dark blue
