GENERAL NOTES
1) These drawings are valid for plumbing installations only. The dimensions shall not be scaled.
For location of sanitary ware and plumbing fixtures like WC, urinals, wash basins, floor traps
and kitchen sink, refer architectural drawings.
2) Piping, attached with the structure shall not touch it and a minimum clear gap of 1" shall be
maintained every where.
NOTES ON WATER SUPPLY
1) Following cold and hot water supply pipes shall be galvanized iron (GI) pipes (BS 1387, Class-
M, IIL or equal approved), provided with galvanized malleable iron fittings and with
threaded joints:
a) Pipeline from municipal water main to underground water tank
b) Forced main from underground water tank to overhead water tank
c) Cold water supply riser main from overhead water tank to toilets, geyser and taps in
open areas
d) Hot water supply riser main from geyser to toilets
2) All cold and hot water supply pipes, within the toilets and kitchen, shall be polypropylene
random (PPR) pipes (DIN 8077-8078, PN 20, POLYDEX or equal approved) with PPR fittings
(PN25) and with fusion welded joints.
3) All flow control/shutoff valves shall be ball-type valves, made of brass.
4) Except where otherwise shown in the Drawings, runs of PPR cold and hot water pipes to any
single fixture shall be of 20 mm size.
5) Except where otherwise shown in the Drawings, flow control valves shall be installed at the
following locations:
a) Water lines to and from underground tank
b) Water lines to and from overhead tank
c) Water lines to and from water heaters
d) One on each floor distribution branch from vertical supply pipe
6) All GI pipes and fittings, embedded in walls and floors, shall be wrapped around with
approved plastic tape.
7) All underground GI pipes and fittings shall be externally treated with one coat of hot applied
bitumen (Special Industrial Bitumen: SIB10/20) and one layer of polythene sheet (300 gms),
duly wrapped around.
8) All hot water pipes, exposed to atmosphere, shall be insulated with sectional fiberglass
insulation, of minimum density 4 lb/ft 3, properly, wrapped with canvas cloth, in approved
manner. The thickness of the insulation material shall be 1/2" and 1", respectively, for pipes
of sizes 11/2" or below and 50 mm 2" and above.
9) Every horizontal pipe line attached to walls, beams, ceilings or other structures, shall be
supported by galvanized holder bats placed, securely, into the structure, at intervals not
exceeding 8', throughout, its length and at all changes, in direction, to ensure that the
deflection does not exceed 1/8".
10) Vertical pipes shall be provided with heavy galvanized iron clamps, two per floor.
11) All pipelines, in course of or after laying and jointing, but before being covered, shall be
tested hydraulically, using a test pump fitted with an accurate pressure gauge. The pipeline
shall be tested at a minimum test pressure of 60 psi. All pipes, fittings and specials, with
their joints, shall remain perfectly water tight, under the full test pressure, sustained for a
period of not less than four hours.
NOTES ON BUILDING DRAINAGE
1) All soil, waste and vent piping, for building drainage, including pipes, fittings, bottle traps,
floor traps and clean-outs shall be of uPVC (ISO 3633-1991, DADEX or approved equal), with
solvent welding joints.
2) All horizontal soil and waste pipes, in toilets and kitchens, shall be suspended below the
structural slabs, with minimum distance of 9” between ceiling and crown of pipes. The
suspended pipes shall be supported by galvanized MS clamps, anchored securely, into the
slab.
3) The following minimum slopes shall be followed, for all the horizontal soil and waste pipes:
50 mm 1 in 50
75 mm 1 in 50
100 mm 1 in 100
150 mm 1 in 150
4) Where directed by the Engineer, the fittings shall be with access eyes.
5) Vent stacks shall be extended 3 feet above roof and vent cowels shall be provided on top of
the stack.
6) All bends at the base of stacks shall be long radius type.
7) Floor traps shall be with outlet size of 75 mm.
8) Wash basins and vanities shall be connected to 40 mm uPVC down-pipe, through uPVC
bottle trap. The down-pipe shall be connected to horizontal soil or waste branch through
reducing socket and bend/tee.
9) Urinals shall be connected to 40 mm uPVC down-pipe, through uPVC bottle trap. The down-
pipe shall be connected to horizontal soil branch through reducing socket and bend/tee.
10) European WC shall be connected to horizontal soil branch through 100 mm adopter and
bend/tee.
11) Kitchen sink shall be connected to 40 mm uPVC down-pipe. The down-pipe shall be
connected to horizontal soil or waste branch through reducing socket and 75 mm P-Trap.
12) For all down-pipes crossing through slabs, uPVC sleeves, of appropriate sizes, shall be
provided.
13) The building drainage system shall be tested after completion of its installation. All openings
shall be plugged and water poured from venting top of pipes and leaks observed. The head
for testing purposes shall be there by limited to 30' of water column. The test pressure shall
be maintained for 15 minutes and not more than 1/2" of drop in water surface shall be
allowed.
NOTES ON FUEL GAS SUPPLY
1) All fuel gas supply pipes shall be galvanized iron (GI) pipes (BS 1387, Class-M, IIL or equal
approved), provided with galvanized malleable iron fittings.
2) All flow control/shutoff valves shall be ball-type valves, made of brass.
3) Except where otherwise shown in the Drawings, flow control valves shall be installed on
branch to each fixture.
4) All GI pipes and fittings, embedded in walls and floors, shall be wrapped around with
approved plastic tape.
5) All underground GI pipes and fittings shall be externally treated with one coat of hot applied
