Our BPsych Equivalent Programme is ideal for those who want to build on their three-year
undergraduate degree with Psychology as a major. The qualification will prepare you for the scope
of practice of a Registered Counsellor that upon successful registration with the HPCSA, will
enable you to work with people at community level.
The programme’s focus is on psychological screening, rudimentary assessment, short-term
supportive counselling, and psycho-educational interventions (in alignment with the scope of
practice for the Registered Counsellor) with the aim of developing and promoting the psychosocial
wellbeing of individuals, families, groups and communities in South Africa. This qualification also
provides multiple pathways for academic or professional Master’s degree studies in Psychology,
Social Sciences and other cognate fields.
