Part B –Reading

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT
THEIR DREAM JOBS
Read what Amelia and Ava said about it.
The concept of a dream job is something that I’ve thought about a lot in my short lifetime. I
am 16 years old and I’ve been thinking about having a job since I understood what a job
5 was. I come from a family and culture where your occupation is extremely important and
success is usually measured by money and what you can provide for your family. Though
this might be very motivating for some, I find this constant pressure extremely problematic
and it has been the cause of a lot of anxiety in recent years. It is crazy that I, a sixteen-year-
old girl, have to definitely decide on an interest that will probably be difficult to reach, one
that can sustain a long career and a family, but will also fuel my will to live, and is also
something meaningful that will help society.

Amelia, Florida
Nowadays, taking care of your mental health is becoming more important and more
popular. Your job can help to simplify your stress or make it worse and this provides a
strong argument as to why you should find a job you enjoy: a dream job is key to
15 happiness. In a world where there is now more stress than ever, modern day teenagers
show the same levels of anxiety as mental hospital patients in the 1950s. Growing up can
either complicate mental health with the potential of unknowing what one’s future may
hold, or it can relieve that stress by providing clarity. Seeing past generations work in
something they don’t like makes me search for a job I know I will love.
