Newer Modalities of Peyronie's Disease Management with Stem Cell - A Study

Presenting Author:

Dr. T. Kamaraj - [email protected]

Abstract :

Peyronie’s disease is the development of fibrous plaques inside the penis. This condition
often causes curved, painful erections. Optimum medical therapy for Peyronie’s disease has
not yet been identified. New therapeutic option, along with selected portions of the
guidelines, are explored in this study. The objective is to describe the stem cell treatment for
Peyronie's Disease

The purpose of our paper is to highlight the possibility of using stem cell therapy in the
treatment of Peyronie’s disease.

Aesthetic Gynaecology- its impact on Women's sexuality

Presenting Author:

Dr. K.J. Niveditha - [email protected]

Abstract :

Aesthetic gynecology, also known as cosmetic gynecology, can significantly impact a

woman's sexuality by potentially enhancing her self-esteem, body image, and overall
comfort with her intimate anatomy, which can lead to increased sexual satisfaction and a
more positive experience with intimacy; however, it's crucial to consider that the impact can
vary depending on individual factors and realistic expectations about the procedures
involved.

Positive effects:

Improved body image: By addressing concerns about genital appearance, aesthetic

procedures can positively influence a woman's self-perception and confidence, leading to
increased sexual desire and comfort during intimacy.

Enhanced sexual function: Certain procedures, like labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation, may
improve sexual function by addressing issues like vaginal laxity or discomfort during
intercourse, potentially leading to greater sexual satisfaction.

Psychological well-being: Feeling more comfortable with one's body, especially the intimate
area, can contribute to improved self-esteem and overall psychological well-being, impacting
sexual experiences positively.

Effects of Menopause on Sexual Function in Indian Women

Presenting Author:

Dr. K.S. Jeyarani - [email protected]

Abstract :

Menopause significantly impacts sexual function in Indian women, primarily causing a

decline in sexual desire, difficulty with arousal due to vaginal dryness, pain during
intercourse (dyspareunia), and reduced sexual satisfaction, all stemming from the hormonal
changes associated with the menopausal transition; this can significantly affect their quality
of life.
Physiological changes:
Declining estrogen levels during menopause lead to vaginal atrophy, causing dryness and
decreased lubrication, making sexual intercourse uncomfortable.
Common complaints:
• Low sexual desire
• Difficulty reaching orgasm
• Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia)
• Decreased arousal
Psychological factors:
Alongside physical changes, the psychological impact of menopause, including body image
concerns and anxiety about aging, can further contribute to sexual dysfunction.
Cultural considerations:
Societal norms and attitudes towards sexuality in India can further complicate discussions
about sexual health issues during menopause, leading to women not seeking help.
Studies on Indian women and menopause:
Research indicates that a significant proportion of postmenopausal Indian women
experience sexual dysfunction. Studies have shown a correlation between the severity of
menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness with decreased sexual function.
Management options:
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT): Can help alleviate vaginal dryness and improve
sexual function for some women, but should be discussed with a healthcare provider due to
potential risks.
Vaginal moisturizers and lubricants: Can provide temporary relief from vaginal dryness.
Lifestyle modifications: Regular exercise, stress management techniques, and open
communication with partners can also be beneficial.
Presentation 4:

Impact of Orthopedic problems on male sexual function

Presenting Author:

Dr. P. Radhakrishnan - [email protected]

Abstract :

Orthopedic problems, particularly injuries or surgeries affecting the pelvic region, can
significantly impact male sexual function by causing erectile dysfunction (ED), reduced
libido, pain during intercourse, and difficulty with ejaculation, primarily due to potential
damage to nerves involved in sexual arousal, like the pudendal nerve; this is especially
prevalent after pelvic fractures or major hip surgeries.
Pelvic Fractures:
Considered the most significant orthopedic injury affecting sexual function, pelvic fractures
can directly damage nerves and blood vessels crucial for erection, leading to a high
incidence of ED.
Spinal Cord Injuries:
Depending on the level of injury, spinal cord damage can severely impact sexual function by
affecting nerve pathways responsible for arousal and ejaculation.
Hip Surgery:
While not as common, major hip surgeries, especially those involving manipulation around
the pelvic area, can also lead to nerve damage and subsequent sexual dysfunction.
Nerve Damage:
The pudendal nerve, which plays a key role in male sexual function, is particularly vulnerable
during orthopedic procedures, especially in the pelvic region, leading to potential erectile
dysfunction if damaged.
Pain and Psychological Factors:
Aside from direct physical impairment, pain associated with orthopedic injuries can
significantly impact sexual desire and performance due to psychological factors like anxiety
and discomfort.
