effectively fixing and protecting the environment.

TAPESCRIPT:
Good morning! I am Dr Cord – an environmental scientist. Today, I want to talk about the damage to
our ecosystems. As you probably know, ecosystems are home to live faunas. We talk a lot about ways
to stop the damage we are doing to ecosystems and protect them. My research involves fixing the
damage we have already done though. For example, we lose millions of hectares of forest each year,
anyone can plant trees to clean up greenhouse gases and it’s not difficult to do. By planting new forest,
we prevent drought from happening and save that farmland. More and more trees reduce global
warming that causes bad drought. Of course, this is not enough. We have to clean up plastic in the
oceans and rebuild homes and rivers. The question how we get these things done finally help
ecosystems. Suddenly, each person should help as much as possible and many governments should start
a project. In the end, what is most effective if all countries worldwide to get together and the green of
the plant repair and protect the environment?

TAPESCRIPT:
Michael: Hi, Linda. Did you have a nice weekend?
Linda: Hi Michael. Yes, I think so. I went to help my sister deliver food to some homeless people. How
about you?
Michael: I had a meaningful workshop at the youth club last Sunday. We shared experience about
school bullying and how to prevent it.
Linda: Sounds interesting! Sometimes there are fights inside or outside our school, that many cases are
not reported to the teachers. My friend was beaten last week when he accidentally stepped on a boy's
foot.
Michael: Yeah, that is physical bullying. There are some verbal bullies who use bad words to hurt
others like obese students. They're also relational bullies who try to stop someone from joining that
group if they don't like that person. We can see that sometimes we may bully others in different ways
without knowing that we are doing something wrong.
Linda: That's right. Physical bullying hurts the victim. Meanwhile, verbal or relational bullying does
not cause physical harm that may make the victim depressed or even frightened. That's called mental
harm.
Michael: So we should know more about it and raise other's awareness of it too. There will be another
workshop about the solution to school bullying, so that we can have a better learning environment. It
will start at 9am the Saturday. Would you like to join it?
Linda: I'd love it. See you there.

C. or it ultimately shapes them D. and it ultimately shapes them

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the
best answer to each of the following questions .
Habitat destruction is one of the biggest threats facing plant and animal species throughout the
world. The loss of habitat has far-reaching impacts on the planet’s ability to sustain life, but even with
the challenges, there is hope for the future. Habitat destruction, defined as the elimination or alteration
of the conditions necessary for animals and plants to survive, not only impacts individual species but
also the health of the global ecosystem.
Habitat loss is primarily, though not always, human-caused. The clearing of land for farming,
grazing, mining, drilling, and urbanization impacts the 80 percent of global species who call the forest
home. Approximately 15 billion trees are cut down each year. According to a study about tree density
published in Nature, the number of trees worldwide has decreased by 46 percent since the start of
civilization. In addition to the loss of habitat, deforestation reduces the ability of forests to provide the
critical benefit of absorbing carbon, which helps to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The situation is even worse in waterways, coastal areas, and the ocean. Coastal estuaries and
marshes provide breeding grounds for the majority of marine species. As they, along with inland
wetlands, are dredged and filled, species are less able to birth and support their young. Pollution and
effluents from the land travel easily through streams and rivers to the ocean, where they impact the
health of fish, birds, and marine plants. Deforestation far from shore can cause erosion that enters the
water and deposits silt into the shallow marine waters, blocking the sunlight that coral reefs need to
survive.
Despite the habitat loss that has occurred globally to date, there is still hope. Studies reveal that
by preserving 50 percent of the land and ocean around the world, plant and animal species could
thrive.
